Beijing Rong Courtyard Hotel

This hotel felt more like a hostel, but was in a great location and had very nice staff. My bathroom was super moldy and it’s hard to tell in the photos but some of the rooms are semi-basement units, though they are on the first floor. I heard saw cats and stuff going through trash at my window all night. The bedding was clean. The “lobby” is connected to most of the rooms so it’s rather noisy throughout the morning, as families are conversing on couches about 4 feet from your bedroom the. The location is great for restaurants and walking around, but you have to walk about 6 minutes to the nearest street that allows cars to get a taxi, so this would be something I would consider if I was traveling with heavy bags or small children. Overall, I would probably pick a more luxurious property for the expensive price.

The location is great for those who values it above all else. It's also meant for those who wants an experience living on an ancient accommodation. Those who specifically chooses this for it's location, is certainly not worth it for the price. This because taxi fares are very cheap in China to bring you around distant locations should you need to travel. There will be tremendous saving and comfort living off better 4-5 star hotels, even International chains, which are abundant in Beijing for same price. However, that being said, should you value for living experience in ancient house, this might be a good choice. However, you must bare in mind that the size of the accommodation is very much to be desired. Really tight spaces and navigating through dimly lighted alleys. We booked a family room for 4 persons that comes with a loft internal arrangement equipped with wooden fairly shaky and narrow stairs. You'd have to be very careful with climbing up and down the stairs by holding firmly to a shaky guard rail. Not recommended for the elderly to use. Ground level sleeps 2 persons and the another 2 on the loft area. One shower equipped with a toilet bowl, thankfully seated and not squat like commonly found around China. Found it a chore for 4 person to take turns to use it. If not for the location of a shopping street within walking distance, I would have removed a star. I chose this accommodation because of the picture of an ancient seating area mistaken it to be part of my accommodation space, but it is actually a common area for guests to gather. Service staffs are pretty good and helpful with politeness. However, there are no 24/7 presence and no front desks but a small table to assist in check-in.
