If You Can Stomach the Smoke and Service Roulette This is my personal opinion. My three-night stay at this hotel was a study in contrasts. The price, a mere 15 pounds per night, is astonishingly low, and the value is undeniable. The rooms are well-equipped with toiletries, comfortable bedding (lovely pillows and a quilt), and complimentary slippers. The hotel's location is also a major plus, nestled in a vibrant, local area far from the usual tourist traps, where the residents proved exceptionally friendly. Furthermore, the complimentary shuttle service to and from Guangzhou International Airport (approximately 5 km away) is a significant convenience, provided you arrange it at the time of booking. I was particularly grateful for this service after a late-night arrival at 2:00 AM, following a lengthy immigration queue. However, the hotel suffers from two major drawbacks. Firstly, the pervasive smell of cigarette smoke is overwhelming. It permeates every corner, from the reception and lifts to the restaurant and even the guest rooms. It's clear that smoking is deeply ingrained in the local culture, and the hotel staff seems powerless to address it. Secondly, the service I received from one particular receptionist was appalling. On my first afternoon, when I requested a room change due to the initial room's lack of windows and strong smoke odor, she was incredibly rude and dismissive. She continued eating her meal, barely acknowledging my presence, and pretended to be on the phone. My check-out experience was equally frustrating. When I attempted to extend my stay and requested a non-smoking room with windows, she abruptly refused, took my key card, and proceeded to eat noodles while ignoring me. This individual's behavior was unacceptable and potentially damaging to the hotel's reputation. In summary: If you are a budget-conscious traveler who can tolerate a heavy cigarette smoke environment and are willing to risk encountering poor service from a specific staff member, this hotel offers excellent value and a unique, local experience. The free airport shuttle and comfortable amenities are definite pluses. However, the hotel management must address the smoking issue and take immediate action regarding the unprofessional behavior of the mentioned receptionist. If these issues were resolved, this hotel could be a truly exceptional find.
