We arrived a little after ten to our rental and found it to be unbearable. • There was a bad order when we entered the building. It smelled like cat urine to me. Fortunately, it did not smell that in the actual unit. • The unit was incredibly warm when we entered. I checked the panel of the heater and it was warm, suggesting that it had been running. I immediately found a wall thermostat and turned it down as low as possible. • We tried to turn on the air conditioner, but it did not come on when we adjusted the temperature down. • We opened the windows to see if we could get a breeze going in the room, but it was very still outside and there was no relief from the heat. Without a way to cool the apartment down, we felt it would be impossible to get any sleep and were left with no choice but to find a hotel nearby. We messaged the host and began a text dialog the next day on and off of the booking platform. They indicated afterward they had checked and the battery was out on the remote but we should have been able to get air conditioning from the wall unit, which was not the case. If we had arrived a few hours earlier, we may have been able to find a solution but unfortunately, we could not stay and risk not getting any rest. The host indicated he would give us a refund of one night, along with the cleaning fees so in the end we were out around $90. It was worth it to us to take the loss and get some sleep elsewhere.
