Farmstay riverside YURT firepit bbq activities

This was an excellent last minute find, as we needed a bed for the night, travelling from south Devon to Hertfordshire. Our hostess was very accommodating, providing a double bed, pillows and a duvet, together with an extension lead for electric power. The yurt was located on a model farm amongst tents set up by fellow travellers who were better equipped than us. I had been hoping to get a room at a hotel or B&B for the night, but none were available in the area we travelled to. My wife is always prepared for the unexpected, so she had a double sleeping bag, towel, tea, cutlery and toilet paper so the surprise camping venue at the farm was a pleasant change. The site is well set up with plenty of field space and parking, two cooking centres, firepits (plenty of wood), hammocks, toilet and shower facilities all beside the River Beane on the outskirts of Hertford. There is even an artificial beach beside the crystal clear, relatively shallow, slow flowing water, with paddle boards and canoes for those of smaller stature. There are also a reasonable variety of healthy well kept animals, horses, donkeys, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens and at least one rabbit. The rustic nature of the farm has its own charm and there are cabins with all expected facilities for those not wishing to rough it. We had a very comfortable, restful night despite the rooster unexpectedly crowing before dawn at 03:16 in the morning.
