Stable Cottage in Painswick, Gloucestershire, is a beautifully, recently renovated barn conversion comfortably accommodating up to four guests in two bedrooms. The dog friendly holiday home has been tastefully decorated throughout to create a wonderful home-away-from-home for small families or couples looking to escape to the Cotswolds' countryside.
Located within the small town of Painswick, Stable Cottage is within easy reach of some of the local areas best loved walks, villages and attractions, this town is also often referred to as the Queen of the Cotswolds as it has some of the best examples of well preserved historic buildings.
The cottage itself lies within the grounds of a large country house but enjoys plenty of privacy. To the front of the cottage is a beautiful garden with a Petanque Piste and a gravelled terrace perfect for alfresco dinners, it is also surrounded by fences and hedges making it the ideal place to let dogs and children play.
Once inside, the cottage has a comfy lounge with a sofa and two armchairs that are perfect for watching the TV, there are also doors leading out to the garden. Next to the living area is the dining table, which can extend to seat up to four. The galley kitchen is off the dining area and is equipped to a high standard and features a wide array of appliances such as a fridge/freezer with ice dispenser, an aga style oven with gas hob, a dishwasher and a combination microwave/oven.
There are two bedrooms at Stable Cottage, the first is the Master Bedroom, which is situated on the ground floor of the holiday house. The Master Bedroom has a super king size bed and a door leading out onto the garden, it also benefits from an en-suite bathroom, which is fitted with a walk-in shower, a WC, a wash basin and a whirlpool style bath. Upstairs is the second bedroom, which has two full size single beds, it also benefits from an en-suite that is styled as a wet room with a walk-in shower, a WC and a wash basin.

Property as advertised, clean, quiet, well furnished. Cotswolds location meant it felt less value for the cost compared to say Devon or Dorset. Upstairs bedroom had several compromises as it's up steep low headroom stairs, open to the downstairs and bedside light position is fixed too near to the headboard.
I checked with the agency about bringing a stair gate as there was no clear picture of the stairs and was told one not provided but yes I could bring my own, which was correct except there is no way to secure a gate to the stairs. Also, there were landscaping works ongoing which we were not informed about. The workmen were extremely polite and accommodating but we had to move some in work items about to make the garden dog safe, on occasion we had to negotiate vehicle access and several tipper trucks of gravel were delivered which covered our cars in dust. Nothing particularly intrusive but we should have been told of the works beforehand.

A nice property with a good location. The cottage was very dog friendly, and one notable big plus point was that there was a private enclosed courtyard garden for the dogs to have some outdoor space. There was also a secure parking space for the car. We did have a couple of problems - we couldn’t get the TV to work as it relied on WiFi connection and the screen kept freezing, and we also had a couple of issues with the heating but the owners helped us resolve these. All in all a good stay for a couple with dogs

Beautiful retreat in a stunning and quiet setting .Well equipped. We even played pétanque on the piste!
Friendly and helpful host - when I left something behind it was promptly posted -nothing was too much trouble.
