About this house rental
Our two-level 75m2 home has a very special traditional character featuring hand made furniture and textiles as well as early 20th century utensils and ornaments that travel you back in a different era.
Entering the house from the front yard there is a kitchen, dining room and living room with sofa bed. On the upper level, there is a spacious double bedroom with anatomic mattress, wardrobe and dressing table. The room has direct access to a private balcony and a wonderful sun terrace equipped with a hammock and sun-shade tents.
The uniqueness of this house is also related to its eco-friendly construction. During the renovation, the owner chose natural, local materials such as stone, marble, and wood. No varnish has been used on the wooden floors and surfaces. Additionally, all the furniture is handmade of solid wood and by local craftsmen following the traditional Cretan carpentry.
There is a vast Mediterranean garden and orchard with wallnut, carob, olive, orange trees to walk through, sit on the stone benches at dry-stone patios, and relax by browsing through your favorite books under the tree shade on the hammocks available.
Cycling in Gavalochori is perhaps the best way to discover the area around, so two brand-new bicycles are provided free of charge for those who prefer that way to explore! An outstanding experience, guaranteed to have you totally immersed in the uniqueness of the Cretan Nature.

As the host is widely knowledgeable of the island's whereabouts, outdoor activities such as mountaineering or hiking, please, don't hesitate to ask him during your check-in about the info you may need regarding the area and its numerous hiking sites, rich in unique natural characteristics!
The house is situated 4km of distance from Almirida beach but also close to numerous beaches, half an hour away from central Chania and very close to many local sights such as Kournas Lake or Aptera Archeological site. it is perfect for your short or longer stays in the Western and central part of Crete.

The villa is located in the village of Gavalochori at Apokoronas region of Chania. At about 3 minutes to the village main square, you will find a mini market, cafe, and restaurant. More shops and services can be found in the nearby villages of Vamos or Almirida, both at about 4 km away.
There are also bus stops with frequent routes to Chania. At the nearby seaside town of Kalyves (8,4km) there is a wide range of shops and services, ATMs and pharmacy and of course its lovely organized beach with water sports facilities.
Apokoronas is a region which extends to the northeastern part of the prefecture of Chania, by the foothills of the White Mountains to the north coast of Crete. It is characterized by the green hills and the fertile tracts of land, due to the abundance of water coming from the mountains, creating the only natural lake of Crete, as well as rivers which run through the region, before finding their way out to the sea.
Guest access
You get access to the whole premises indoors and outdoors for your private use. Also access to a private olive grove field, perfect for relaxation under a unique cretan mediterranean environment.

- Our Home is isolated and safe, perfect for a couple offering all needed amenities. A large private field, with trees and sitting areas is available, perfect for isolation and relaxing surrounded by nature of Crete. Professional cleaning services are used between checkin-checkout.

- Please note that the owner may occasionally visit the property to tend to the outdoor plants in the courtyard. These visits will always be arranged in advance and coordinated with our guests to ensure minimal disruption and maintain your privacy during your stay.
Please be aware that our rates exclude an additional stayover tax. For stays from March to October, the tax is €1,50 per night, while from November to February, it is €0,50 per night. This tax applies to all bookings starting January 1st, 2024. Guests are required to pay this additional tax directly to the check-in assistant who will be responsible for key handover upon arrival.
