I really wanted to love Kiahuna Plantation, especially because the location is fantastic. The grounds are beautiful, and having easy access to Poipu Beach was definitely a highlight of my stay. I would absolutely return to Kauai, but unfortunately, I would not stay at Kiahuna Plantation again. One of my biggest surprises was the *** resort fee. I understand that resort fees are common, but given the amount, I expected a higher level of service and amenities during my stay. Unfortunately, several experiences left me questioning what that fee actually covered. There were several little experiences throughout my stay that, taken together, really added up: - Towels: I went to exchange my first towel of the trip, and when I used it to wipe down a wet lawn chair, I asked for another. I was told guests are only supposed to receive one towel exchange per day and that I shouldn't “waste” it on the chair. They did eventually give me another towel, but the interaction left me surprised. - The 6:02 PM towel incident: On my first towel request, I went around 6:02 PM and asked what time they closed. I was told 6 PM. I asked, “What time is it?” and was told “6:02” as the employee walked away. I understand having a schedule, but a little hospitality goes a long way. - Floatie: They weren't able to help inflate my floatie, which was disappointing at a beach destination. - Checkout day: This one really got me. I checked out at 11 AM and asked if I could use the pool afterward while waiting for my evening flight. I was told that I had access until 11 AM and would need to pay a *** day pass to use the pool after checkout. After paying *** in resort fees, I found that particularly disappointing. - Housekeeping: Another thing worth noting is that housekeeping is only provided at checkout, so there is no routine room cleaning during the stay. Guests are also expected to load and run the dishwasher before leaving. Neither of these things would be a dealbreaker for me on their own, but given the resort fees, I found myself questioning what those fees actually covered. None of these things individually would have ruined my vacation. But together, they created a consistent feeling that the resort was focused more on policies than hospitality. And that's what really stood out to me because I travel frequently and have experienced a much warmer, more proactive level of hospitality elsewhere. I'm not looking for someone to treat me like royalty every second, but after paying significant resort fees, I do expect to feel genuinely welcomed and taken care of. The GOOD: beautiful grounds, fantastic location, and wonderful access to Poipu Beach. The BAD: service and resort amenities didn't feel like they matched the resort fees. The UGLY: leaving on checkout day with a wet towel because I couldn't use the pool or get a towel after 11 AM without paying another ***. The EXTRAORDINARY: Kauai itself. ❤️🌺 I had an amazing trip. I saw dolphins, turtles and a monk seal, explored the Na Pali Coast, discovered Anini and Hanalei, ate incredible food, experienced beautiful beaches and sunsets, and made so many wonderful memories. Kauai absolutely has my heart. Kiahuna Plantation, unfortunately, does not. I would happily return to Kauai, but next time, I'll be staying somewhere else.
