I would recommend Gouves if you planning the vacation by yourself. It is close to the main city and you can get there by bus even in late hours.
And if you are going to Gouves, you should stay at Dimitra Apartments for its location and hospitality of the owner Manos. We came quite late, so he gave us lift from the bus stop to the hotel and the same on our way back.
The room was big and nice, pool clean. Small supermarket is only couple of steps from the hotel, and the best tavernas are on the same street.
