Tollhouse Cottage Heart of Shaver

The location is perfect, stores and Hungry Hut directly across the street, they have really good breakfast and a beer garden. We were able to sit outside and listen to some live music.There was a washer and dryer, made it so much easier after a lake day. Propane fire pit was perfect for snores at night. Was stocked with DVD’s and board games. The house was perfect for our weekend getaway.

I can’t really say there’s anything we didn’t like. There were TVs in 2 of the 3 rooms, but all the more reason for the kids to be outside.

The Tollhouse Cottage was a perfect spot for a family gathering. It is quite spacious with plenty of seating inside & out. A lot of great amenities that we really appreciated like air conditioning, very comfortable beds, plenty of games and puzzles, and a fire pit for smores. The location in the center of Shaver can't be beat. Would definitely book again.

A word to the wise - I have mobility issues, and the stairs to the 2 upstairs bedrooms are quite steep. My husband and I were quite comfortable in the downstairs bedroom, slthough I would have liked somewhere to store my clothes. It would be helpful to have instructions for the air conditioning and living room fireplace. That is nitpicking. We pretty much liked everything.

We really enjoyed the property and especially loved its location right in the heart of town. It was conveniently located near local shops, restaurants, and markets, making everything easily accessible. The property was also close enough to the lake for a quick trip, yet far enough away to avoid the heavy lake crowds and enjoy a more peaceful, relaxing stay. Overall, the location offered the perfect balance of convenience and comfort.

What we didn’t enjoy about our stay was that the cottage didn’t quite give us that “home away from home” feeling we were hoping for. The living room furniture felt more like seating you would find in an office waiting area rather than a comfortable and cozy living space. The couches were quite uncomfortable, and there also wasn’t much seating available for everyone to fully relax. After spending long days hiking, exploring, and enjoying Shaver Lake, we really looked forward to coming back to the cottage, getting comfortable, and unwinding together. Unfortunately, the living room setup made that difficult. Having to walk up the steep stairs to the bedrooms just to lay down and relax on beds that felt very springy and uncomfortable also added to the negative experience. The BBQ grill has definitely seen better days and could use an upgrade or replacement. Overall, aside from these comfort-related concerns, we still had a good time and enjoyed our stay. With a few upgrades to the furniture, beds, and BBQ grill, this cottage could provide a much more relaxing and comfortable experience for future guests.
