Mbibo House in the Shela Dunes

Nous avons adoré notre séjour à Lamu et plus particulièrement à Shela. Quelle île magnifique, quelle belle petite ville, quelle incroyable et belle maison ! Les balades dans Shela sont paisibles et un ravissement pour les yeux. Les gens sont d'une formidable gentillesse et d'une grande hospitalité. Merci à Hanna qui a été extrêmement disponible pour nous accueillir et nous proposer d'organiser toutes les activités permettant d'apprécier notre séjour. Une journée avec un super capitaine de Dhow (bateau local), une visite de Lamu avec Oumar un guide particulièrement passionné par sa ville, ou encore la bonne humeur de Farid pour les petits trajets en bateau. La plage est à 15 min à pied à travers les magnifiques dunes pour une baignade en dehors du soleil ardent. Le village est à 10 min à pied pour une ballade pendant les heures chaudes. La piscine de la maison est aussi bienvenue à ce moment. Et enfin, un grand merci au Chef Lawrence pour son accueil et pour la qualité de sa cuisine qui nous pousserait presque à rester à la maison pour profiter de ses plats matin midi et soir sur commande : Crêpes, Jus de fruits frais, Crabes, crevettes, poissons, salades ... Mais il y a bien un moment ou il faut partir. J'espère que nous aurons la chance de revenir. Merci encore Hannah et merci à votre formidable équipe.

We were picked up by Captain Farid from the airport, then we were picked up by other staff from the jetty. They carried our luggage - a there is sand everywhere, rocks and uneven paths, you can't roll any suitcases. The way from the jetty to the house takes about 10-15 minutes and is a highlight already, as you are emerged in beautiful Shela right from the start. At the house we were greeted by Lawrence - the chef of the house - with incredibly delicious passion fruit juice and a beautiful sunset. The house itself is very spacious, has four beautifully decorated bedrooms and many more places to read, relax, eat... Lawrence, the chef, is wonderful! A very nice person to talk to and learn from and if you ask nicely, he will even teach you some of his best recipes. Everything Lawrence prepared for us was always so delicious! We mostly had Swahili cuisine as we wanted to try as much of the local food as possible. You can easily arrange all your meal plans with Lawrence who takes care of everything. Hannah, the owner, is so wonderful and helpful. She arranged all the activities for us, always kept in touch before and during our stay and made sure that we had an unforgettable experience - which we definitely had! So all the activities she recommended were really great to get a feel for the island and the tiny village of Shela. And if you need more peace and quiet - the beach is a 15-minute walk away - and there are hardly any people.

L'accès se fait par des petites ruelles tortueuses. On peut aussi rejoindre la plage à travers les dunes. Pas un problème mais à avoir en tête.
