Really nice rooms in the centre of Belper, walkable to everywhere. Very relaxing stay.

Disappointing.

The pub is a nice traditional English pub. Bed was comfortable

No wifi in the guest rooms. Room was always cold, even when they managed to get the heating on. Location is rather noisy, the A6 passes with feet of the bedroom window

Spotlessly clean, charming staff, good value.

The room was exceptionally clean, the bathroom being spotless and everything fresh and neat. A big shout out to whoever cleans the rooms at the George and Dragon! I liked the coffee bags as they are better quality than sachets of instant coffee. The towels were opulent.

When I was shown to my room, the key would not open the lock, nor the spare key! Eventually I was given a new room. I noticed, however, when I came to lock the door from the inside, that the lock itself was quite rattly and old which made me wonder whether it could fail and not be opened from the inside. Perhaps all locks on all rooms could be refurbished.

Fresh, very clean and quiet!

The room was surprisingly modern and fresh! Excellent treats: biscuits, hot chocolate, good coffee, teas, still and sparkling water! Good quality shampoo and conditioner, as well as sparkling white towels!

Gorgeous rooms in an old pub

Lovely big room, very nicely decorated, great amenities (tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits), good size en-suite. The room was much bigger than we expected

Everything was brilliant! The only thing we could have done with is a shelf in the en-suite for putting our toiletries on and some hook on the back of the bathroom door.

One to rebook

Great value for money. The rooms are extremely well designed and are very comfortable. Great selection of beers and wines. Although not a food establishment you can order a takeaway which are plentiful. Restaurants are nearby also very good.

High quality room: exceptional value for money

Seriously best room I’ve stayed in for 15 years. Huge room, tasteful refurb that brings out the best of the historic building. Soooo clean and beautifully prepared for arrival. Hotels in London charging £150 a night don’t take this care. Lovely friendly pub welcome too. Would happily have stayed a longer to make the most of it!

Live Music

The room was nice, very generous on the tea/coffee facilities. The car park was full when I arrived so I called and asked what to do, and the barman moved his car for me.

It was probably my own fault for not thinking harder about staying in a pub on a Saturday night...They had a live band playing and it was so loud, there was a door constantly banging too. When I arrived I saw the ear plugs beside the bed so I feared I was in for a lot of noise. It did end just after 11pm, at which point it did go quiet. Maybe there should be a warning to check live music dates before booking? Otherwise it was a nice place.

Very comfy and convenient in Derbyshire

Lovely, large room and massive bathroom: sooooo good after other pokey English B&Bs at higher prices. A short walk from the station and diverse local buses in the Main Street. Several good eateries for breakfast and dinner just a short walk away.

It’s a standard and comfy English pub, so busy owners may be hard to find on arrival/departure (there is a large bell in the bar) and only pub snacks are offered. None of this is such a big deal when the accommodation is so fine!!

Room on front aspect where the passing traffic makes for a very disturbed sleep. Earplugs provided but not effective Obviously recognise there is a traffic issue but not sure how you could resolve it..

Couldn’t wait to leave!

Not a lot other than being a busy pub

My room was the Nailers room, road side above the busy A6 road through Belper. It had secondary glazing that did nothing to shut out the heavy traffic noise. I was woken at 03:08 by a large lorry passing and then other cars that continued to get heavier and by 04:00am it was constant both ways. To top it all the bed was the creakiest bed I’ve ever slept in with a damaged footboard and I’ve stayed in many rooms as a Travel Manager. This has to be the worst room I’ve ever experienced for noise and at £66 for room only, is an appalling charge when you are denied a restful night. Ear plugs are provided but I can’t use them as they just drop out.. awful stay and never again!

Looking forward to our next stay .

The landlord was friendly, as were the bar staff and the cleaners . The room was spotless and really nicely set out . The bed was very comfy . The hotel is quite central and has a carpark . Keep in mind the hotel is on a main road so expect some noise. Belper is worth a visit , such a friendly town. Stay at the George and Dragon and then from there walk the 2 mins to The Devonshire for fabulous meals and great service.

We didn't realise the hotel is closed up until 3 pm on certain days . We arrived Monday, slightly early, hoping to have a drink in the bar before we could get into the room, but the drink had to wait, which wasn't a big deal. 😊. We would definitely stay again . It was lovely.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would book again.

The accommodation did not do food, but it was in the town where there were excellent restaurants, pubs and cafes. The pub itself was friendly and we had a drink most evenings before going to bed. We were able to park in the carpark so had no issues with parking .Although on the main road which was busy during the day, we had no trouble sleeping as it fell quiet in the evenings. The room servicing was good, the bed very comfortable and the bath towels were large.

Absolutely Loved the Character of this Pub

Absolutely fabulous for my demands ..... plenty of restaurants around or they allowed me to order in a pizza. Rooms where beautifully decorated. Car park can get full back you can easily double park until space becomes available and there is a car park in the town.

Nothing everything was good .... its an old building goes way back in time that's why I loved it so I guess could get hot but fan provided and really where can you find air-conditioning unless its super modern and no character.

Good value for money and a great location but only suitable for a short stay

Its location as it was right in the middle of Belper and easy to find. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Our room was clean, comfortable and, as we had 2 dogs, there was a “doggy” basket with treats, bowls and a blanket. The shower tray drain was blocked and a member of staff dealt with it immediately. There were plenty of places to eat nearby as the pub didn’t serve food

The car park was permanently full, making it difficult to park over night but at least we could retrieve the car in the morning to load up. I knew it was a wet pub, ie no food, but what I didn’t realise was that our room wouldn’t be serviced, therefore the bed wasn’t made or the en suite cleaned each day, although the hospitality tray was replenished each day. The Roman blinds mechanism broke but couldn’t be fixed, therefore they remained down all the time. The Wi-Fi didn’t work in the morning but it was OK by the evening. The pub was left with no staff overnight so we were completely alone there but it wasn’t a problem

Noisy plumbing. You are unlikely to sleep in in the morning of next door has an early morning shower. The shower didn't work when I arrived, but they fixed that for me

Not a facility or pub I would use but it was cheap. I would expect the electric shower to work.

The decor was nice in the room. The room was lovely and clean and nice bed linen. Tea coffee and water and toiletries were available.

The shower did not work and there were no blinds at the window in bathroom overlooking street and in bed room had to shut curtains as people opposite could see in. Very noisy on the front with cars and big trucks going past till early hours and starting early in the morning.
