Just a few kilometers from Montalbano lies Elicona, named the most beautiful medieval village in Italy in 2015. The August festival is the highlight of the summer in Montalbano. The event will bring the entire town to life with games and historical reenactments, and the area is rich in natural beauty and historical monuments, foremost among them the Swabian-Aragonese castle of Milazzo and the Piscina di Venere, a small lake nestled among the rocks.
