The house is in a great quiet location on a little cove of Smith Mountain Lake. It is away from things enough to have privacy but still not a long drive to stores, restaurants, etc. We were in town for a family wedding at a local venue. The house was good for myself, husband, daughter and son-in-law. I chose a pet friendly house so I could bring my oldest dog with me. However the stairs inside the house were too steep and slippery for him to use safely and I would also not recommend for anyone elderly. (they really need tread grips or carpeting as the flooring was quite slippery) The outdoor stairs and decks were a little dangerous for anyone as some of the boards are rotting or loose. The stairs down to the dock are also very steep as well as some loose board issues so my dog could not do those either and would be dangerous for a child or elderly person. Other than those issues and needing a good cleaning mostly on the decks and outside of the house it was nice. We found everything we needed in the kitchen including a Keurig, marshmallow/ hot dog roasters, even starter logs for the fire pit and a nice large tray I used to carry our marshmallows, hot dogs, and other goodies out to the fire pit for an outdoor lunch. There is a bottled water dispenser that was much appreciated and the dog cookie jar on the table just inside the front door was a very sweet touch! Guest service was very friendly and helpful, it was great to be able to text any concerns and get a quick response.

We had a lovely stay at Smith Mountain Lake Cottage. We brought our two college age children and Golden Retriever. It was the perfect home base for kayaking on the lake and hiking at Smith Mountain Lake State Park and Peaks of Otter. We had lots of indoor and outdoor space at the house. It was clean and everything was well kept. Our hosts responded to communications quickly. We would definitely recommend this house rental.

The property needs repairs that could be dangerous and the bathrooms need to a deep clean. The size was great and really enjoyed our stay.
