Villa Ohana on Madeira is a paradise for families, because we’ve put our whole hearts into furnishing our modern bungalow.
Villa Ohana is located at an elevation of about 230 m in the center of the Estreito da Calheta valley. This offers you a breathtaking panoramic view. To the southeast, the mountain ridge stretches toward Calheta, offering a magical sea of lights—especially at night. To the southwest, you’ll enjoy a wonderful view of the Atlantic Ocean. Because the property faces south, you’ll have sun on the terrace all day long. But there’s also plenty of shade. Villa Ohana is just a 3-minute drive from the highway, offering excellent access. On the terrace, however, all you can hear is the rustling of lizards and the church bell at noon—it’s truly absolutely quiet!
We decided to furnish Villa Ohana to a high standard and with families in mind. Whether young or old—everyone feels at home at Villa Ohana. We’re especially proud of our heated pool, which features a shallow play area designed specifically for children. It also invites parents to relax and unwind when temperatures rise. Alex has focused his attention on the outdoor kitchen. Here, you’ll find a large gas grill with a cooking surface, a beverage fridge, and plenty of counter space.
But you won’t have to sacrifice any luxury indoors either. Our Villa Ohana features air conditioning in every room, a ventilation system, underfloor heating, two TVs, two floor-to-ceiling 1×2 m rain showers, and all the amenities needed for a dreamy stay. Our master bedroom has a small built-in safe to protect your valuables and passports. For older children, a PlayStation and a Nintendo Switch with various games are available, and younger guests will also find plenty of things to play with.
Villa Ohana can accommodate up to 8 adults; 2 travel cribs are available for younger children. The master bedroom features a box-spring double bed (1.80 m x 2.00 m) and a pull-out sofa bed (1.60 m x 2.00 m). The other two bedrooms are also equipped with box-spring double beds. In one of the rooms, the double bed can also be separated into two single beds (if the teens want a little more privacy). All bedrooms have direct access to the terrace and the pool and offer breathtaking views right from the bed.
In each bedroom, you’ll also find a well-designed closet (think IKEA) and a small desk.
The two identical bathrooms feature a rain shower with good water pressure, comfortable toilets, a sink, and plenty of counter space and outlets. In the guest bathroom, you’ll find an additional toilet and sink.
The large open-concept kitchen-living area is where everyone gathers. A huge window wall turns the ocean view into the most beautiful and natural mural. In the kitchen, you’ll find everything you need for a perfect vacation. We’ve stayed in countless vacation homes ourselves and know how important it is to have sharp knives and decent pots and pans. We provide separate dishes for children—all microwave- and dishwasher-safe, of course. The necessary appliances are also provided (microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator with freezer, stove + oven, toaster, kettle, blender). We’re confident we’ve thought of everything. In the living room, a super-comfortable couch and two rocking chairs are waiting for you to put your feet up after your breathtaking hikes. Or you can head straight out to the terrace and choose the seating or lounging spot that suits you best.
Within walking distance, you’ll find a small supermarket, two restaurants, a cocktail bar, and a playground.
Thanks to the convenient access to the highway, you can reach Calheta Beach by car in just seven minutes. Here you’ll find one of the few sandy beaches and a foodie’s paradise. The harbor promenade is lined with one great restaurant after another. We highly recommend the Manifattura di Gelato.
The surfer towns of Jardim do Mar and Paul do Mar are also very close by. You can be there in about 10 minutes if you want to surf or simply experience the laid-back vibe of these towns.
Ribeira Brava is about 15 minutes away, and Funchal is 35 minutes away.
