Activities nearby: Vieregge, a tranquil little fishing village, lies directly on the Breetzer Bodden lagoon in the northwest of the island of Rügen. It is part of a chain of lagoons within the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park. Here, thousands of cranes rest in autumn, creating a spectacular natural phenomenon. The Bodden lagoon is an ideal area for all kinds of water sports and is also very popular with anglers. Just a few kilometers from Vieregge lies the Schaabe, a twelve-kilometer-long spit of land whose fine sand makes it one of Rügen's most beautiful beaches. Opposite Vieregge is the island of Hiddensee, which can be reached by ferry from Schaprode.
