Casa Miriam Hostal Colonial

The 'casa particular' is in an attractive, ancient building. The street where it is is about 20 mins on foot from the old city. There is a 'paladar' about 5 mins away on foot, where you can have a meal for 1,500 to 2,500 Cuban pesos. There is an inner courtyard and it the rooms overlooking the courtyard are big, but I preferred the room where I stayed at the end of my stay, set back from the courtyard, far from the street at the front, as it was quieter. (There are a couple of rooms high up, round the back of the kitchen.) The owner, Yali, is very helpful and speaks fluent English. Marita, who prepares breakfast, cleans the rooms, etc. only speaks Spanish and is, also, extremely helpful and is kind. Yali will help you with transport, sightseeing, and any issues that may arise. Overall, it is an excellent choice and it made my stay in Havana easier and more enjoyable - despite the power cuts. (They tend to last 3 to 5 hours a day, mostly during the day.)

Very interesting old property but with good facilities, large room and excellent staff. Breakfast was also good. As with much property in Old Havana the surrounding area is not attractive, but we did not feel in any danger throughout our stay. Highly recommended.
