Yamaboushi

I wasn't sure what to expect because the price was a fair bit lower than other onsens we stayed in. However, we were impressed with our stay. The onsens were quite beautiful (but extremely hot) and you could see if they were available via tablet. The evening meal was extensive, top quality and delicious. The room we had was quite large with an upper bedroom and lower "living room". The only disappointment really was the bathroom, which had a toilet and sink but no shower. However, we were able to wash in the onsen, since there's a showerhead there, and it was perfectly fine and enjoyable. The staff were nice, but the front desk staff spoke limited English. Though I gate this ryokan 4 stars for facilities, staff and location, that is only because other ryokans costing 2x edge this out and I this ryokan 4.5 stars in those categories if I could. Also, the main picture right now on Agoda showing iron chairs and coffee table on a balcony looking at some brown brick buildings is absolutely NOT the correct place. There's nothing like that in the area. The rest of the pictures look correct. I would say that value-wise, Yamaboushi is really hard to beat. You'll get a full, top-notch ryokan experience, just without some of the extreme exclusivity of some other places that cost twice as much.
