We had a great stay at the arenal observatory lodge! The food was delicious. We enjoyed the trails. Be sure to take a rain jacket. One night we went to the frog ponds and found lots of red eyed green tree frogs. That was fun. I was disappointed though because the clouds never cleared enough for us to see the volcano. I guess that's the problem with going in the rainy season.

The location is outstanding — you can enjoy stunning views of the volcano right from your window. The property is quite remote and far from town, so it’s worth planning ahead, as dining at the hotel is essentially your only convenient option.
The breakfast is tasty, but it is served à la carte with only one choice available, and the portion size is relatively small. On the positive side, there are several hiking trails around the property, offering plenty to explore and enough activities to keep you busy for an entire day. They also have a funny cross fitt route, 7km with 5 activity points
One thing to be aware of is that the walls between the rooms are quite thin, so noise from neighboring guests can be heard easily.
Overall, it’s a great place for nature lovers looking for peace, beautiful scenery, and outdoor adventures.

Wonderful stay with great unique forest trails and experiences. We went as a couple and had a lovely time with great breakfast included with amazing volcano views. The pool is also nice. Just note that it’s tough to get around without a car and food options are limited as it’s so remote, without driving.

I visited the Arenal Volcano Obs Hotel twenty years ago, during R & R from Iraq and then again now (2025). A big change was no A/C and huge increase in nightly stay cost. If you're going to visit a tropical location - you need AC. Nothing can save your experience, even if the staff, like Arenal are exceptional, very clean areas and beautiful locale. An associated issue was, since we had to keep the screen doors open all the time, just to get some wind/cooling relief; anytime your neighbor is loud, as in playing their TV loud the entire night - you have zero peace.
