Stayed here many times before,main reasons are large room,bathtub and free car park.Used to include free buffet breakfast but no longer available which is a shame as the variety and quality were excellent.Also no longer available is the very handy free coffee to take away area.

Of three elevators, one was operational. Unfortunately it was also not the one leading to the sauna, so you had enquire how to reach it. Upon check-in no information was given whatsoever, and room contained no info, such as the mini-bar. The hotel has also cut down on breakfast severely. It used to be one of the best we've had, but this time was very poor.

Breakfast is a disaster! you ask for an extra coffee and have to pay for it. Never seen anything like this in any hotel in the world. Forget it! It was my 3rd time in this hotel that I used to like before but after this poor expérience, never again!

After many hours on the road, we finally arrived at the "Carathotel Basel/Weil am Rhein" and we couldn’t have been more satisfied. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, and our room was absolutely perfect. We were given a huge, comfortable bed, and everything was clean and well-prepared. We truly can’t fault a single thing and would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing and pleasant stay.

A clean older hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Prices are quite high considering the standard of the hotel and the neighborhood ( a rather trashy environment ). Prices are probably high because of the nearby Swiss border and even more expensive Swiss hotels across that. - If you arrive by car, there is a large parking lot, however, if you arrive by public transport ( bus or tram) you will have to walk quite a distance, in an area that does not seem very safe or meant for pedestrians ( this is written by a woman).

The Hotel (especially the room) looks run down. The room had AC which did not work, fortunately one could open the window to get the heat out. Staff was friendly and helpful and the location is good. Overall the stay was ok for what we were looking for. But again, the rooms could use a refresh.

The room was clean and silent, it was possible to sleep very well. The parking place is quite big so I could park my car easily. The breakfast is without buffet and a bit limiting for me because I love to eat both sweet and continental breakfast, so ordering from a fixed breakfast choice that was not possible. The breakfast is quite expensive if you don't book it with the room.

I highly recommend that everyone should look beyond the big expensive city of Basel and look into Germany for accommodations. Although this hotel had slightly outdated décor, one can see that this hotel, and it's staff, have a lot of pride in their work place, and they offer great service. My room was spotless, had all the necessities except for air conditioning but thankfully, it was a cool enough night that it wasn't necessary. The hotel offered a plentiful and fresh breakfast buffet that was fit for a king. Everything was wonderful at the Carathotel. I really commend the staff that was very welcoming.

When you’re on the 8th floor, you need the lifts to work. With three lifts that shouldn’t be a concern, but when only one slow lift is working then that mars the overall experience. Some guests with baggage waiting 10 minutes to get up to their room. The staff on reception were apologetic, but this clearly had been an issue for some time. The hotel is best suited to those who come by car, and is in an industrial estate. Be aware that public transportation options are somewhat limited in the immediate vicinity, for example a 20 minute walk to the nearest Basel Tram stop. OK in sunny June, but in the wetter colder months you would likely need to book a taxi. The food was excellent.

The property location was a good bit away from transport, room was quite dirty with a bug even being the bathroom cup and staff also being fairly unhelpful - my partner had also left her Fitbit watch in the room and we have contacted the hotel to try and have it sent back but instead it seems to have been stolen instead as there is recent activity within the app. Try and avoid if possible!

We have stayed at the hotel several times before and were always very satisfied and loved it. We don’t know what’s going on — whether the management has changed or something else is happening at the moment. The staff can hardly speak German. When checking in, you now have to enter and register everything yourself on a tablet, even though we are regular guests and already registered. We find this very inconvenient. The bathroom was also not cleaned properly. Out of three elevators, two were out of order. No money left for electricity? In addition, breakfast is no longer included, and you end up paying significantly more for everything including breakfast. The beloved breakfast buffet is gone, and you can now only choose from fixed breakfast menus (€19 per person). The breakfast was good and plentiful, but we noticed a lot of unnecessary food waste. On top of that, the staff were completely overwhelmed, both in terms of language and the number of guests, and we had to wait a long time to get a table and then again for the breakfast to arrive. Our advice to management: go back to the old system. Otherwise, you’ll lose your customers. We, for our part, won’t be coming back.

I like the way the check in was so smooth, the friendliness from the staff, The breakfast was excellent and evening meal. The room was nice,tidy and clean. Dislike: I left the sign on my door (Do Not Disturb) but still they went in and cleaned the room, that side needs to be looked at. But on the whole was good

When I checked in I was asked to pay for the room though I was sure I had paid when I booked but didn't have the details at that time. It was eventually sorted but I am now having to wait 5 days to be refunded. The whole process of checking in was slow as they work with one tablet and if that's being used you may need to wait a while. Rooms are spacious and clean though the hotel is a bit dated

Not a bad hotel, but only one elevator was working and had to carry luggage down four flights of stairs when checking out. Also - getting coffee at breakfast is almost impossible. It is brought to the table by a server, but it is so busy that it takes too long. I went to the lobby and purchased a coffee from the front desk.

The staff were absolutely fantastic and extremely helpful. The breakfast included a great variety with food to suit all tastes. We stayed here to visit Basle which was a short tram ride away. It took about half an hour to get to the tram station. I think this would be a good hotel to visit if on a motorbike tour as there's a big car park and an excellent bar. The perfect way to wind down and relax. Our room was a great size and very comfortable. Definitely worth a visit as you won't be disappointed.

I was very surprised with breakfast! It was full German style one and I liked it a lot. Parking was great and close to a grocery market by walk. By the war I’m mexican ethnicity and but the Mexican restaurant wasn’t pleasant.. I felt somewhat fusion with Italian or American Italian style. Food wasn’t authentic (I mean I understand but 😬) and some of food we ordered wasn’t even 1 person portion.. I don’t think I’m going to trust the public review anymore lol since everyone said the Mexican restaurant in the hotel was amazing! It’s just not even close to Mexican food.

We stayed one week at Carathotel Basel during Eurovision. Our room was spacious and clean even being a little older. Staff was helpful and wonderful. Breakfast was an amazing spread of everything you could possibly want. Transportation into Basel was about a 15 minute walk to the tram or you could catch a bus across the street, but we enjoyed the walk. The only (minor) issue was that there was only 1 elevator working while we were there, and sometimes the wait for it was quite long.

The staff here is easily the best I've ever experienced. Extremely helpful, kind, and fun, and they put in the extra effort to make guests feel at home and comfortable. They alone are reason to stay again, but the hotel is a great bargain as well. Loved it!

The room itself was dingy and dated. Bed linens were clean and the bed was comfortable. Amenities in the room were limited/bare bones. No modern upgrades (e.g. no usb ports for charging devices).

One of the lifts was broken which meant I had to wait 20 mins to get downstairs. I have a disability therefore could walk down 9 flights of stairs. Most staff were exceptional except one receptionist who really needs to consider if she doesn’t like the job get another one. Her customer service was terrible. No facilities in the room, no tea/coffee, no standard shampoo etc. didn’t get time fir breakfast due to the lift and having to get a flight but it looked good
