It was a novelty staying in a little boat and the bed was very comfortable. The owners who we met were very friendly.
The Happy Sailor isn’t just one boat. You could be staying at one of two boats. This is not made clear when you book. Most of the pictures are of a lovely looking boat with wood panelling and a separate cabin space at the front. We were given the other one, which appears to be smaller and has a tiny little dark hole at the back with just a curtain for the third person to sleep.
The boat really is very small and it is quite a long walk to the shower. Our toilet became overfull in the middle of night and we didn’t know how to sort it, so we had to trek to the toilet in the shower block. It was easy to resolve when we were told how by the owners the next morning.
Also, the owners had contacted us a couple of weeks before we were due to arrive (not through Booking.com) to say that there had been a double booking and that we would be in their camper van. We said that we didn’t want to stay in a camper van and I think they were waiting for us to cancel our booking, but eventually they said they had managed to change things around and could accommodate us. This was a very unsettling experience.
