The Pottery House

We had no idea of the wonderful story behind this special apartment when booking. By staying at The Pottery House you are supporting several generations of a very skilled family of local artisans. We had a really lovely stay at The Pottery House it’s exceptional in terms of its style, space, amenities and closeness to the port and nearby Chora. As a couple who like to eat out the apartment suited us well, the beds were very comfortable and noise from the busy port area nearby was easily blocked out with the triple glazing and shutters. The terrace space was fabulous, I was able to sit in shade whilst my partner could enjoy full sun. A lovely spot to have breakfast or evening drinks. Care is needed when using the fridge in the upstairs kitchen as it is near marble stairs. So about the story… The Pottery House is part of the Rodios family story - see photos attached (Magda and her father, their workshop and family story). Magda and her husband are the most amazing hosts whose family including parents, siblings and children we’ve enjoyed meeting over the course of our stay. Never imposing but available if needed and helpful with recommendations, information and support. The Pottery House sits above the beautiful ceramics studio, Rodios Pottery, in Skopelos. Inside it is filled with the most exceptional craftsmanship and ceramic pieces created by Magda and her father Mr Nikos, who are fourth and third generation pottery and ceramic artists from the island. Their workshop is across the street and is the original studio used by Magda’s great-grandfather since just before the 1900’s. Magda invited us to visit to see the ceramics being created where we met her father Mr Niko, at work and saw over a hundred years of skill, passion and tradition passed down through generations in the photos on the wall and within the techniques and tools being used. Magda’s father uses a manual wheel operated by his foot to maintain a consistent speed for working with the clay.

Very happy with the property, noise from nearby harbour can be managed and is part of the location. Caution needed in kitchen when using the fridge. (Also sadly I can only add four photos to this review)

It has a great roof top terrace. It is well located . It is well equipped and very nicely furnished.

Property was very modern . Ideally placed with a clear view of the harbour. Close to restaurants and transport links to other parts of the island.
