Really great for one night in Shrewsbury. Staff were friendly, check in and out super easy. Nothing to complain about for 1 night!

Very convenient for the train station which is why we booked it.
Although the property was quite new etc, because of the cold weather and snow the room was very cold and we had to telephone the place to ask for the heating to be put on because we were so cold.

This place was advertised as a 4 star hotel so figured it’ll at least be clean and comfortable, unfortunately it was the opposite.
The moment we walked in, the red flags started. The owner didn’t greet us straight away as he was serving drinks, which we didn’t mind the ones before us, but not acknowledging us for 10 minutes while new people came to the bar, wasn’t exactly respectful.
We then downloaded the key on our phones, we didn’t find this a problem but if someone’s phone died or no data, this could be an issue.
We then were taken to the sauna of a room. The owner pointed out the broken window but said he hasn’t got time to fix it because bar staff had let him down. Not ideal as very loud location. The room wasn’t clean, smelled of drugs, loud (we expected outside but also inside), the only sink was in the toilet so hard to wash unless you wanted to go in the dirty shower, no soap so we used body wash. We asked for an iron but the owner said no due to staff.
We didn’t want to make a fuss so we figured it’ll do for the one night.
After we returned to the room, we couldn’t try and sleep due to the noise so stayed up. At 2am, we were shattered so was getting into bed, when we saw RAT POO in the bed.
We immediately called the owner who said he’ll get a new sheet, apologised in a huff and said his housekeeping didn’t come to work. I then explained we can’t use the duvet cover either and we don’t want to stay in this room, considering the new sheet he brought was also dirty, damp and scrunched up. The owner advised there was no other room to go to as it’s fully booked so we said we leaving. The owner unhappily then told us to get into another room (so turns out there was one). We quickly had a look and decided it was better than a freezing cold park bench at 2:30am.
This room was still dirty but not as bad. We sat on the one bed which was impossible to sit on, never mind sleep in because the springs were sticking out.

4 star it was disgraceful I want a refund !
Had to go into a scruffy pub to book in with dirty people the room was awful. Towels not washed and old thin thins, properly, toilet dirty, sink rusty where water goes and the shower didn’t heat up. The duvet was cheap and nasty no way was this 4 star!

Fantastic location clean tidy and comfortable .
Noise from pub downstairs did not affect me two floors up.
Very warm overnight but fan helped. No bad points

Nothing good can be said of this place.
Room did not match description: given a pokey small attic room rather than a multi-room apartment with double instead of twin; degree of exposed wiring in next room suggests the whole building is unsafe; no furniture in room; room overheated; roof windows and blinds broken, neither could close; significant road noise from outside until not-so-small hours; no privacy from next room due to inadequate communicating door; urine stains to undersheet;

The place was absolutely filthy the stairs to rooms smelled of rotten beer .. the floors were filthy in corners the blinds were destroyed on windows but the bed had not been changed yet clean towels on end so I beg to differ the cleaners missed the room .. the top sheets and pillows dirty with hairs all over and the undersheet was worse ..it may had a recent reverb but it was filthy.. it may be cheap or value for money but bad is cleanliness is required ..

Nothing at all.
Everything. The weird greeting via a camera made me feel unsafe. No lock on my door was terrifying… and the fact that the expectation was that I had to download an app that was all in Chinese only added to my concerns. Why should I have to compromise my cyber security to protect my physical security? Stench of sewage in the en-suite. Green light on all night was disturbing.

It was so bad I could not stay there and had to find somewhere else. It was cold, bleak, spartan and inhospitable.

Great location for what we needed.
Small room and the door didn’t actually lock. Check in felt a bit odd, walking into a pub with everyone staring at you.

The room was clean and tidy. Very thin duvet. Good shower. No sugar with tea or coffee. Nowhere to hang up clothes and was very noisey with the other people staying ( banging doors) was ok for one night stay and very cheap.Greay location.
Noise from other residents.

The owner of the hotel who was supposed to give me the passcode for my room was not available on reception. One of the bartenders then made me wait for 20 minutes on reception for the owner of the hotel and then said that to text him that I have arrived. He did not reply me for the next 10 minutes and then the reception lady finally escorted me to the hotel room.

Compared to the dump of an AirBnB I stayed at in Hanley the night before this place is a palace

The location
I was quite shocked when I stood in my room and looked around. I do not know whether the bed linens had actually been changed, the duvet cover was unbelievably crumpled, as can be seen in the photo. Unfortunately, I did not take pictures of when I turned the duvet down, because there was debris on the bedsheet. I brushed it to the floor. Speaking of the floor, I honestly don’t know when this was washed the last time, it was absolutely dirty. The shower was filthy, there was pubic hair on the side. The furniture was so dusty, you could write in the dust. Never ever again!

+Super central location
- Phone-operated door lock system - kinda awkward/slow to use and relies on you having a charged phone
- Balcony was somewhat pointless xD
- Bed was super squeaky, even just rolling over make a trumpet section play!
- Lamp wasn't plugged in :(
- Tiniest mirror for a room I've ever seen

Great location. Friendly staff. Fab restaurant Bird and Beer a few doors down.
Shower hadn't been cleaned, it was hairy from last guests. Couldn't figure out how to close the window so had to try and sleep with Billy Bigballs ranting on about smacking someone at 3am in the street outside lol

The location is very good, close to town and walkable distance. Comfortable bed and nice and helpful staff
Silverfish in the room popping up out of a hole by the wall, a big spider and loads of cobwebs in the room which must have built up over time as there was so many, hairs in the bed, dirty blinds that didn’t work, general dirtiness such as on the kettle and shelves and a filthy shared bathroom with taps spraying all directions when turned on and leaking down the wall. A woman who sounded like she was on something shouting and yelling and screaming to herself all hours of the night from 11pm to 5am who would have been best to be asked by the hotel to leave considering she was so loud and there was no chance of any other guests sleeping with her in the hotel. For the £72 in total I paid for one night I was shocked at how low quality the room cleanliness was

The woman who helped us was nice.
Bedbugs! Unfortunately I booked without reading the reviews carefully. I only noticed the horrible reviews when I went to find the location on google. Some of these reviews mentioned bedbugs, but it was already too late to cancel. So we went to the property and asked to see the room before we paid. The woman helping us didn't want to let us into the room, but finally agreed. We checked the beds and quite quickly found a bedbug. We showed it to her and she admitted it was a bedbug. She offered us another room, but of course we didn't want to stay there and ran out of the place as quickly as possible. Despite explaining why we left to the employee, and to booking.com and the hotel management via email, we were nevertheless charged for the room.
I think it is totally unconscionable that we should be charged for (let alone offered) a room which doesn't meet basic standards of cleanliness. When I booked I knew it would be a simple room, that's not what I'm complaining about. We probably could have a had a good night sleep there. But if you can't meet basic hygiene standards, you simply should not be offering rooms at any price. And the room was not cheap, by the way.
I am also terribly disappointed in booking.com. There were also reviews mentioning bedbugs on booking.com, but despite the fact they were recent, they were buried further back in the reviews. If booking.com knows that the property has such a chronic hygiene problem, why does it continue to list it? When I wrote to booking.com and explained why we didn't stay there, they said they asked the hotel to waive the fee, but we were charged nevertheless. This is a pity, but after using booking.com several times a year for over 20 years, I will have to find a new way to search for hotels.

Facilities were all working. Bed was comfortable. Location is very close to everything. Overall, it had everything I needed.
Only one small thing, which was the roadworks going on outside at 1am, but to be honest, once I shut the window I slept right through them so almost a non-issue.

We were scammed by the owner. They ran a drum and bass night at the hotel & everything in the room was shaking. He said he’d refund us then cancelled the booking and didn’t. He shouldn’t be allowed to operate hotels
