The Gibson Mansion Bed and Breakfast

Lovely mid-century mansion. We booked the Garden Room and it was very clean with a comfortable bed and good A/C for a hot summer day. There is also an outdoor gazebo and garden area to enjoy. Kitchen on the ground floor is open 24/7 with coffee, tea, and snacks that is a nice amenity. Check-in was very easy with an access code. Breakfast is arranged with vouchers at two establishments across the street from the mansion.

The mansion is located next to a main street and there is some minor traffic noise but nothing that disturbed our sleep. Bathroom could use some routine maintenance attention. The soap dispenser is coming loose off the wall and didn't dispense any soap. The bathroom fan also needs some lubrication and was noisy. Tried the Nautical Bowl for one breakfast but not really our style for breakfast. No coffee was available there and you get a large bowl of sorbet with some fruit and granola on top. More of an afternoon snack or dessert place. There is a full flight of stairs to climb with luggage to reach the rooms so be aware of that when booking. A couple of area rugs around the bed would be a nice addition.

The property and home are beautiful. Guests were polite and quiet. Parking was easy and right in front. The furnishings were nicely preserved/restored and interesting architectural details.

We only saw the host once - when our key didn't open the front door on our return the second night. We arrived the same time as another couple with the same issue. The owner met both couples at the door to let us in. There isn't breakfast on the premises - there are 'coupons' for a meal at one of two establishments in the mall across the road (one of which opens later than we're used to having breakfast so it was essentially one choice). We couldn't locate the coupons on our first morning so we texted the owners. In a search of the room for the coupons, we found a fair amount of dust and some debris under the bed - which was also mentioned to the owner. Our coupons turned out to be in the door jamb of an adjacent room which we noticed when returning downstairs. And when we returned that evening, the area under the bed was better, but not entirely clean. Last thought was that the historic tub is a great tub. But if stepping over the edge of a tub is a challenge, then it presents a problem. If you prefer a shower, note that there's a wrap around curtain you need to close and nothing to hang onto. I don't suffer from vertigo, but I had that sensation for the duration of the shower. Sort of like being an astronaut. Turning on the shower before stepping in is also a puzzle to solve. My wife is still wondering how to do that and also leverage the soap tray in the tiny shower envelope - extra credit if you solve that.

The Mansion is absolutely beautiful! Love the restored wood work and that the original light switches were kept.

The vouchers for breakfast. While I am grateful that it is a creative approach to providing breakfast, I would have enjoyed having breakfast served onsite. Even a continental breakfast would have been lovely.

Nice mansion but I was disappointed that a bed and breakfast didn't offer breakfast but gave coupons for nearby breakfast joints. Go stand in line with mobs of people to get a mass produced breakfast burrito.
