Basedow borders Lake Malchin to the east and is located in the geographic center of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Here you’ll find a combination of a castle, a sprawling landscape park, farm buildings, and a village—a sight likely unique in Mecklenburg.
Basedow is located in the Mecklenburg Switzerland and Kummerow Lake Nature Park—a paradise for cyclists, hikers, and water sports enthusiasts. From the five observation towers in the nature park, you can discover the wonderful landscape of Mecklenburg Switzerland. The observation towers are located on Lake Malchin in Basedow, Dahmen, and Wendischhagen, and on Lake Kummerow in Neukalen and Verchen. You can spot otters, beavers, cranes, and various species of eagles. You can book public guided tours in Basedow through the Nature Park Administration in Buchen.
The centerpiece of Basedow is the castle with its landscape park designed by Lenné. You can book guided tours of the castle and park daily. Also of interest are the village church with its valuable organ, the newly built royal stables, and two megalithic tombs.
Boathouse II:
Boathouse II features a large living room with a TV and two balconies on the upper floor. An extra bed can be added here. The bedroom with a double bed, the kitchen with a dishwasher and dining area, and the bathroom with a shower are located in the basement. The rowboat is moored right next to the house. A barbecue area in front of the house is available for guests’ use. In addition to the boathouse complex on Lake Malchin, there is a small dock for swimming—the “little beach.” From here, you can go fishing, biking, and hiking around the lake. Rowboats, canoes, and bicycles can be rented at the large beach (about 1 km away).
