About this house rental
In 2018, we discovered this beautiful, approximately 300-year-old country estate in southern France during one of our trips through Gascony and have carefully renovated it over the last 5 years, bringing it up to modern standards by installing new bathrooms without destroying the charm of this old building.
We want to share our love for the French "savoir-vivre"—the art of enjoying life—with our guests, emphasizing serenity, convivial gatherings, and, of course, good food and wine. Besides this passion, our 20 years of experience running a small, romantic restaurant in Hamburg, combined with the wonderful products from the region and our own vegetable and herb garden, provide the perfect foundation for this.
The surrounding wineries host a variety of events featuring wine testings, menus, and cultural activities. In fact, culture here is a vibrant part of everyday life, taking place on the streets and in the squares.
And there's plenty to discover in the surrounding area: small, romantic villages with interesting markets where local producers and small farmers offer their wares, or simply the beautiful landscape with its rolling hills and vineyards. Alternatively, you can take a day trip to the Atlantic coast or the Pyrenees, both about a two-hour drive away, as are Toulouse and Bordeaux.
And for wine lovers, this is paradise. There are many wineries in the immediate vicinity, and the world-famous wine regions with their châteaux around Bordeaux are also easily accessible.
Flea markets and antique markets can be found everywhere, and you can participate in life in Gascony.
Since the house is located in the countryside, 3 km from the nearest town (Éauze), a car is advisable.
Éauze boasts a 500-year-old cathedral that regularly hosts concerts. Musical performances also take place regularly in open squares during the summer, and Marciac (50 km away) hosts an internationally renowned jazz festival every year, featuring musicians such as Diana Krall, Melody Gardot, and even Carlos Santana.
And anyone who remembers d'Artagnan or wants to learn more about him can follow in his footsteps, the most famous Gascon, known from Alexandre Dumas' novel "The Three Musketeers" and its many film adaptations. In Lupiac, his birthplace, there is a museum, and his birthplace, the Château de Castelmore, is located just outside the town. It is, incidentally, for sale.
Éauze is also the capital of Armagnac and is located directly on the Way of St. James.
