About this cottage rental
Step inside and Marine Cottage immediately feels like a home woven with history and character, set across three thoughtfully arranged floors. On the lower ground floor, the kitchen and dining room create a welcoming space to share meals after a day by the sea, with a nearby shower room perfectly placed for sandy returns. From here, doors open out to the garden, drawing the outside in. Upstairs, the first-floor sitting room enjoys beautiful sea views and offers a calm spot to unwind with a good book or a quiet evening, while a twin bedroom with 3' single beds overlooks the lively High Street. The second floor is home to the master bedroom with a 4' 6” double bed, where elevated sea views set the tone for slow mornings, alongside a spacious family bathroom with bath, wash basin and WC.
Outside, the cottage's setting is truly unique within Aldeburgh, with direct access to the High Street at the front and a private garden leading to the beach at the rear. The paved garden is a sheltered sun trap, filled with raised beds and a much-loved display of hollyhocks that have become something of a local feature. A gate at the end of the garden opens almost directly onto the shingle beach, just moments away, making early morning swims or sunset strolls effortlessly part of your day. With shops, restaurants and the coastline on your doorstep, the location offers a seamless blend of seaside tranquillity and vibrant town life.
With space for four guests, Marine Cottage is ideal for families or friends seeking a relaxed coastal escape with a story to tell. Once home to the much-loved “Busman Billy” Ward, a blind coachman and poet who lived here independently into his later years, the cottage carries a rich past, with medieval elements and even hidden spaces uncovered during its careful restoration. Today, it blends that heritage with comfort and charm, offering a memorable base for beach days, sailing adventures and unhurried evenings. Whether enjoying sea views from the sitting room or dining alfresco in the garden, this is a place to slow down and experience Aldeburgh at its most authentic.
