Cosy and comfortable

Fully equipped with everything you would need including AC, mini fireplace, hot water bottles, kitchenette, shower with good water pressure. The area guide with restaurant recommendations and free fresh apple juice were also greatly appreciated.

Shower is a little small (understandably there are space constraints). It was no problem for me but for my broad-shouldered 6ft husband, it was a bit tight.

Quiet, Cosy, Comfortable.

Maddocs Hut is a comfortable cosy shepherds hut with fantastic countryside views. We stayed in January, temperatures dropped below freezing and snow was around, but the log fire kept the hut so warm! Towels and tea/coffee were provided with fresh milk, as well as a bottle of fresh apple juice. Such a peaceful place and within good driving distance of Oldfield Forge which we were visiting. We definitely recommend and will hopefully return at some point!

So great we have booked again

The bed was warm , the shower was hot and the location was fantastic. The hosts were great in actual fact we loved it so much we booked another stay for 2026

Absolutely wonderful, everything we wanted in the nicest little package.

Exceptionally comfortable and well-equipped for a small shepherd’s hut. Amazing location and loved the availability of firewood for the evenings (bonus points for the homemade apple juice!).

We loved everything! If we could add one thing we would maybe put some dish sponges somewhere as the brushes available were a little tricky to clean with and some of the pans were dirty when we arrived from the previous booking. (No worries though; we just cleaned these again before we used them).

A gorgeous, relaxing escape with stunning scenery.

Gorgeous location. Brilliant shower & super comfortable bed. We loved the homemade apple juice and marmalade. A beautiful touch. Great to have the fire pit and mosquito net to enjoy the whole ‘outdoor’ experience. If it had been humid, or very cold the air conditioning would have been very welcome.

Two TINY things - The outdoor chair with the missing slat wasn’t very comfortable. We needed a cushion/blanket to make it more comfortable. A microwave would have been useful to warm food that couldn’t be warmed on the induction stove. Neither of these would stop us from revisiting though.

A wonderful weekend getaway

- The location was gorgeous - The hut was comfortable and private - The complementary juice was so good it has ruined all other apple juice for us.

- We brought some food that wanted reheating and was too delicate doing so in a pan on the induction hob, perhaps a small toaster oven or microwave would be a nice addition. - The bed was a little high for us, though I'll admit we're both fairly short, maybe a small movable step or a little crate could make it more accessible.

Cosy and quiet hut. Well stocked with extra including fire pit and outdoor seats. Perfect for watching the stars.

We had a great time, may require weeklies boots if it’s wet. But would not effect the amazing accommodation.

Stunning Location with Mountain View’s!

Gorgeous shepherds hut in a tranquil location with amazing views. We really couldn’t have found anything better! Extremely clean and comfortable with everything we could have possibly needed. Only wish we could have stayed longer!

Quiet and peaceful - exactly what we were looking for

We wanted a quiet and remote place to stay for 3 nights and this place was perfect.... we absolutely loved the location -beautiful views and it was so peaceful and quiet and was amazing for stargazing! The Hut had everything we needed, was really cosy and warm...and the bed was so comfortable.... had a great night's sleep! Thanks Katie for making us feel so welcome and to both you and Hal for providing the most delicious apple juice we have tasted! Will definitely look to stay again.

Perfect place for a peaceful getaway

We were met at the farmhouse by Katie, and Fergus helped take our bags to the hut, he showed us how to operate the heating/ AC unit.. There was a property manual with instructions for the induction hob and other information, very useful. It was very warm and cosy with the log burner going. There is a fire pit outside with two deck chairs - perfect for stargazing. The shower is amazing! Maddoc's hut had all we needed for a peaceful stay.

No complaints - a headtorch or similar is essential if staying in the darker months! It is VERY dark with no nearby lights.
