The Perfect Backwater Stay – Authentic, Social, and Unforgettable! If you want to truly experience the local way of life in the Alappuzha backwaters, Lakecampers is the absolute best place to stay. My time here was incredible, and I cannot recommend it enough for anyone looking for an authentic Kerala experience. Why Lakecampers stands out: Authentic Backwater Living: The location is perfect if you want to immerse yourself in the local culture. It’s peaceful, scenic, and gives you a front-row seat to life along the water. The Perfect Host: Jay, the owner, is exceptionally friendly and helpful. He goes above and beyond to ensure his guests feel welcome and have everything they need. Seamless Kayaking Experience: Since Jay also owns Camp and Kayak, staying here makes it incredibly convenient to head out for a sunrise kayak. We were able to take his boat early in the morning directly to the starting point, which was a huge plus. Great Social Vibe: This is a fantastic place to meet fellow travelers from all over the world. The atmosphere is social and welcoming, making for some great conversations and shared memories. Pro-Tips for Reaching the Stay: By Public Ferry: For a local experience, take the SWTD public ferry from the Alappuzha boat jetty for just ₹6 per person. There are frequent boats; you can get down at either the Nehru Trophy jetty or Vilakkumaram jetty, followed by a short, scenic walk to the stay. By Car or Bike: If you are arriving by your own vehicle, head directly to Zero Jetty. Jay will assist you with parking and will personally pick you up in his boat to take you to the property. Overall, staying at Lakecampers was an unforgettable experience. If you’re looking for a stay that offers more than just a room—but a true connection to the destination—this is it!

Location is perfect if you need some peace from the chaos of cities. It’s a serene place, you will hear the birds sing. Jay is a great host, it felt a community more than just a stay. Sharing meals, having chai together. Backwater tours was a must do. Jay knows a lot about the area and birds species.

Beachercampers is an awesome small hostel right on the beach in Appelley. Immediately everybody becomes your friend and makes you feel so welcome. Especially the host Jay & his friend Tom you can ask them anything and they go above and beyond and their local knowledge is excellent. I stayed a week and made good use of the hammocks outside the hostel reading my book, exploring the local quiet beaches, swam in the sea. Jay hosts amazing kayaking trips on the back waters of Kerala where you can see rice fields, house boats, cute canels and we took some amazing photos at sunset. There is an excellent cafe next door (fish curry I highly recommend) and a cute chai tea/dosa tea shop at the end of the street where you eat on a bench with the locals. As a solo female traveller I felt so safe and looked after, felt like home by the time I left. The people really make this place special. Thanks for an amazing stay. Paige
Nothing, if something doesn’t work just tell the host and they fix straight away.
