Domaine du Couvent de Saint Julien

La beauté du lieu et l’accueil de l’hôte. Couvent historique rénové avec goût, piscine très agréable dans un grand jardin. Petit déjeuner complet avec produits corses. Idéal pour se ressourcer. Béatrice a une personnalité lumineuse et nous reçoit avec générosité.

A delicious breakfast was available, with fresh fruit, yogurt, patisserie and bread, together with some home-made preserves and local honey. Beatrice was a fabulous host and told us all about the history of the beautiful convent, looked after us so well, and lent us a parasol for the beach. The gardens and pool are stunning. We loved the location of the convent, so peaceful but east to get to Bonfacio and the surrounding area.The bed was perhaps the most comfortablewe have ever slept in away from home.

Didn't like having to leave and go home! No complaints whatsoever, it was a wonderful experience and we hope one day to return.

This is a unique property, a former monastery, which has been beautifully converted with a conservation mindset by Béatrice, whose grandmother’s house this was. Béatrice is an exceptional hostess who regaled us with wonderful stories of the domaine’s history, from the visit of Francis of Assisi, to her own childhood recollections of hearing water course through the monks’ irrigation system. We were only able to stay the one night, but it was a truly memorable one. A highlight was our swim in the eco-filtered pool, once the monastery cistern. But the terraced gardens too are magnificent, marked out by the limestone walls and irrigation channels of the monks’ vegetable gardens and extending to 7 hectares. Breakfast was delicious and beautifully presented in the old refectory. If you’re visiting Bonifacio, I can think of no better place to stay.
