Thappa Garden

La chambre est grande et propre avec un grand jardin à côté. La piscine est agréable pour nager. Le personnel est serviable et le restaurant est bon avec des prix modérés.

C est dommage qu il soit assez loin du centre ville.

The staff were friendly and the breakfast food was good. The cab operator Mr Pandiyan suggested by Thappa Garden was a treat. He was very prompt, friendly and helpful. He was at the station to pick us up early in morning at the Karaikudi station and was at the Resort at 4.45 AM to pick-us up and drop us at the station for our early morning train, all with a smile. I would gladly recommend Pandiyan Travels to all who visit Karaikudi

As my train from Chennai reached KKDI early in the morning, my early check in requests through mails were not responded to. I had to speak to them and pay extra. Booking.com also did not help. The rooms could have been maintained better. Infact the remnants left by the previous occupants were still in the cupboard. The electrical wires to the AC were unprofessionally connected/ insulated , which was clearly unsafe, and could lead to fires.

We were doing a road trip over a few weeks, and the leafy secluded location of the hotel was a bonus. The premises are green with lots of shady trees, and that was most welcome. We felt a lot calmer here than we did in Rameswaram, which was a dirty, horrible place. We liked the large size of the room. We liked the reclining chair and other furniture left on the verandah

The whiff of sewers from the toilet was an abiding feature in all the hotels we stayed, starting at Rameshwaram, here in Thappa Gardens and then again at our next stop, Tanjore. There seems to be a problem with sewage management right across this part of Tamil Nadu. It greatly detracted from the enjoyment of the place. The staff are very hit and miss. Breakfast starts late at 8.30am. I ordered a double sunny side up, and one of which was brought to me burnt (as in cooked on a thava used for something else, and with burnt left overs of what it previously had). We had to return to location after having travelled away a few kilometres, as the staff member at the reception had wrongly advised us that all bills were fully paid up, but it turned out they hadn't processed the payment for the room. I wonder what would have happened if the mistake had been made a few hours after our departure. The restaurant is overpriced compared to prices for food generally at wayside restaurants. A paratha at Rs 80 is outlandish and off the scales, just to give you an example. There is no subdued lighting in the bedroom. There were no table or bedside lamps...it was either full on lighting through the room, or not at all. This seems to be perhaps a cultural issue locally, alongside several others inimical to standards international travellers expect....the world is a small place now, and even local Indian tourists expect high standards.
