I was unable to stay at the hostel and no information was sent to me. I had a TERRIBLE night!
NOTHING. When I finally reached the "Live Lofoten" Hostel having carried heavy luggage late at night around 11pm on Sept 1st, I was unaware I was even at the right place as I was looking for "Stamsund Hostel"! The place was locked up. I knocked as I wanted to ask for directions to Stamsund Hostel. Although Booking.com had confirmed my booking, no details of the hostel or entry code had been sent to me.
Name had changed. No information or code was sent to me. The hostel was locked with no opportunity to contact anyone for help. I thought about calling the police, but finally walked all the way back to the Hurtigruten quay and went to the waiting room which was locked. So I slept outside on a picnic table until 3am when it started to rain. I then moved to the concrete floor by the road outside the waiting room as I could get some shelter from the rain. As a 67 year old man, this is not an ideal way to spend a night in the arctic! Luckily, it was not extremely cold that night, but still very unpleasant!

    The perfect authentic Norway stay
This hostel is a true 70s fisherman’s cabin gem! Decor is the most authentic, cosy vibe and the facilities have exactly what you need and more. Heaps of hang out spaces so it’s super easy to meet people, warm fireplaces that get used regularly, great sauna with direct access to cold plunging in the bay and free bikes and activities for use and a lovely family-run, volunteer-supported spot. Also, grocery shop is only 200m away!
Not as many hikes directly accessible from the property but the hostel offers bikes, car rental and boats to help. Also Stamsund itself is not as jaw-droppingly pretty as some other spots around Lofoten (but there’s tough competition) and there’s relatively noisy road works in close proximity.

A heartwarming home away from home, full of cozy moments, meaningful connections, and a beautiful sense of community.
The property feels like home. I felt so comfortable from the very first minute! Seeing Matias running the hostel alongside his family, it’s clear that they’ve built a beautiful, welcoming community. I was delighted to stay a bit longer and was able to work from the cabin, which made my work days cozy and enjoyable. All the staff seem genuinely happy. it’s lovely to see how they balance everything, keeping things calm and well-organized. When I arrived, I was a bit afraid about the lockers, but it wasn’t an issue at all. everyone was very respectful of others’ belongings. Another thing I wasn’t familiar with was the coin-operated showers, which are apparently quite common in Norway. But once I learned that a few coins give you a few minutes of hot water, it became a great way to conserve water. We often talk about caring for the environment, but I’d never actually taken eco friendly steps before this and honestly this influenced my whole perspective. My entire stay was incredible! I highly recommend this hostel. If you’re looking for a peaceful place with some adventure, good workspaces, friendly people, free activities, and great value, this is the perfect spot. We even had pancake day, and I saw Clara baking cinnamon buns, the smell reminded me of visiting my grandma’s house when she baking a cake! I was lucky to be there at the same time as a group of travelers who had first met at the hostel 30 years ago. Now Matias is the new owner, and I really hope I get to come back and see everyone again someday.
I have to agree with the comment below , I didn’t like about when I had to leave!

A great base for exploring Lofoten
Its idyllic setting, absolutely jaw dropping beautiful doorstep views. Very reasonable price (for Norway). The Sauna was great to have as an option at the end of the day. I would definitely return.
