Stabburet på Balsnes Gård

This was not just a place to stay, it was a very special experience. This 1800’s building has been renovated so it had modern comfort and old world simplicity. We travel a lot and this will be one of our most memorable stays - perhaps the most memorable. Very peaceful and so may outdoor activities right on the doorstep.

We loved everything. You need to very mobile to stay here as the steps to the door and ladder-like stairs to the sleeping area. All adds to the appeal for us. Also the shower is outdoors - this time we chose a warm sponge bath in the house, but on a warmer day it would be nice to shower outdoors (very private)

We spent a week in July 2025 at the cabin – with perfect weather – and had an unforgettable father-and-son trip. The hosts are incredibly friendly and helpful. We felt welcome from the very first moment. The small cabin is lovingly furnished and has everything you need for a simple and relaxing stay. The listing says 28 m², which refers to the ground floor. There’s also a cozy sleeping area upstairs with a similar footprint (with sloping ceilings). For people taller than 1.80 m, it’s a bit low up there, but still very charming. Important to note: if you expect high comfort or have physical limitations, this cabin might not be the right choice. The staircase to the upper level is quite steep, and the overall setup is simple – but it’s all clearly described in the listing, so you know what to expect. For us, it was perfect. The area is amazing for hiking, fishing, and truly switching off. If you’re not a fan of the outdoor shower, there’s a modern shower available down at the boathouse. We actually really enjoyed the outdoor shower! One small heads-up: the water on Hitra is naturally sulfurous – just something to be aware of, but it didn’t bother us. If you’re looking for nature, peace, and a truly special atmosphere (and don’t need luxury), this place is an absolute gem. We’d love to come back!

Unfortunately, the time flew by too fast. We won’t miss the mosquitoes and the sulfurous water – but everything else was absolutely wonderful.

Die gemütliche, liebevoll eingerichtete Hütte, die traumhafte Lage, superfreundliche Gastgeber und die perfekte Umgebung zum Wandern, Angeln und Abschalten. Wir haben sogar spontan um eine Nacht verlängert – das sagt alles!

Die Zeit verging leider viel zu schnell. Nur die Bremsen und das schwefelhaltige Wasser werden wir nicht vermissen – sonst war wirklich alles top.

Likte godt hele utseendet: Tradisjonelt men også litt moderne. Veldig trivelig plass. Iskaldt vann i springen. Sov som en stein. Uteområdet var også kjempefint.
