Id-Dar tan-Nannu - Holiday Home in Xaghra, Gozo

Communication with host Mathew was excellent, lovely quiet area. House was perfect for our stay,Gozo is beautiful island. Air con for rooms was a life saver as it was really warm, This was a really nice house to stay!

Good communication with the host. We didn't meet him as there was a key safe at the front door to the villa. There was no power when we arrived which was sorted very quickly with the help of our host via phone messaging. There is plenty of free parking in a small and quiet square next to the villa. This is quite a new villa with a lovely wide marble staircase and metal rails. It has air conditioning in all bedrooms and living areas. I think this could be a very good villa for a family stay with a few changes. The villa is positioned ideally on the island to see the main sights and visit the beach (the sandy Ramla beach is 15 minutes drive away). It is in a quiet area, but also only a 5 minute drive from the centre of Xaghra where there are several good restaurants and cafes in the main square.

My first impression of this villa was that it was very large, and because there were no pictures on the walls, it felt very clinical and there was an echoing sound in the rooms and hallways. The villa has an unusual layout over 6 floors, with 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, with no en-suite for the master bedroom, but an en-suite in a twin bedroom. There is a bath in the bathroom on the pool level (no bedrooms on that level) , and one bedroom which was being used for storage on the basement level below. There are 2 kitchens, both open plan dining and lounge areas. The pool level had the smaller of the 2 kitchens, and a larger sized sofa and TV. However, we didn't use this as a lounge due to the damp smell, possibly from the pool being on that floor. The other kitchen which we did use only had a small 2 person sofa and small TV. The small sofa seemed out of place. There was room for a much larger sofa and some more comfy seating, to make this the main living area, which would make more sense. There are 2 roof terraces, one at the front and one at the back. No furniture is provided to sit out on either, so it seemed like a waste of space, as we couldn't use them. There's a balcony in the master bedroom, with room for a small table and 2 chairs, but again nothing was provided. We were aware there was no dishwasher installed in the villa before booking, but why wouldn't you fit one in a villa of this size and number of bedrooms? There was no cover for the pool. The filters were on a timer, and the filter on the bottom of the pool didn't appear to be working at all. This led to the pool not being as clean as it could be. It was also still very cold due to it being in May, and a cover would have helped to keep the temperature higher. The double bed in the master bedroom had a springy, soft mattress, and was not very comfortable for us.
