West End Bay

It looks lovely but is also a really functional and brilliantly located house. Form and function, beauty and brains. Easily the best 'private residence' I've ever booked. And round the corner is a cracking butchers and bakers (Kennedys) for breakfast buns, pies, cakes etc.

The street is clearly a work in progress and parking spaces weren't always readily available but were largely cost free once you found one in nearby streets. There is a single parking space at the back of the property but not the easiest to access currently due to scaffolding and neighbours' bins left out. Our group ended up going in 5 cars but always found a space nearby so not really an issue but worth knowing in advance. One minor gripe, once the booking was confirmed via booking.com you are transferred to the agent Sykes Cottages thereafter but the booking reference did not work and it was a real struggle to speak to somebody. Don't let that put you off though as the house itself is great as is the info on arrival.

Parking was sometimes an issue

Was a lovely house, could do with some improvement and more for guests, towel, sheets if needed. Nice kitchen facilities. Comfy bed but small double and size of room could be much bigger.

It was so hot, not 1 fan in whole house, thick feather duvet on bed, no alternative, no spare sheet slept with no cover. Feathers not good for allergies / asthma and no protective cover for germs. 1 toilet roll in toilet had to go buy some for 9 of us in house. No working light in toilet. No spare towels or bedding if got wet. Delayed entry by 1 hour which impacted on food we had in car as booked in for afternoon tea and very hot day. No where to sit in back garden/ yard. Back door left unlocked when arrived. Not much details about parking etc. no recycling available and all rubbish went into landfill bin. Basement needs improvement, smells damp and needs decoration. Fridge not very cold, freezer very very cold. Found 2 broken glasses in cupboard could have cut us very sharp shard and should be checked in between guests. Limited bags for rubbish, expect a bit more for the price it cost. Didn’t think to bring bin bags for a weekend. No hairdryer, front bedroom paint peeling off in corner. Dog poo in back yard we didn’t take a dog. Outside bin so full struggled to put our rubbish in. Shocking there’s no recycling. Blinds very flimsy and doesn’t block out any light, so awake from 5am as so bright. Curtains in lounge very difficult to close and people can see in. Also to keep heat out.
