Our checking in started out a bit rocky as we ran into a bit of confusion with the manager. He insisted that we’ve booked a basic room with no windows when I was sure we’ve booked one with windows as our confirmation clearly stated from Agoda’s website. This went on back and forth for quite some time and he finally agreed to contact Agoda for clarification. Agoda confirmed our paid reservation with window but the manager insisted that it was not possible with the pricing we’ve paid. Fortunately, Agoda honoured our deal and paid for the differences in price between the two types of rooms.
Personally, it would seem to be rather professional for the hotel to honour the deal but they insisted that they did not agreed to the reservation already committed. I ended up paying the differences and then had Agoda reimburse me for the extra charge.
Any other reputable hotels chain would honour the agreement instead of putting their customers through half a day of struggle and stress.
On the upside, after the whole mess was clarified, the manager did offer the best room for us. Overall the place is fine for what it’s, which is a kind of guest house, instead of hotel as advertised. We ended up in Guangzhou during one of the busiest time of the whole year (Trade show plus the 5-1 National holiday) therefore the hotel rates was at its highest with very little alternative in choices. Its location is excellent as it puts you right in the middle of one of the best areas of GZ for street life/ food/ etc. Thanks again Agoda for making things right and thanks to the hotel for a pleasant stay once we ironed out the confusion.
