Nyungwe Hill View Hotel

Heel mooie locatie aan het Nationaal Park. Mooie ruime kamer met apart salon en open haard. Prijs is iets hoger dan geliddeld maar je krijgt absoluut waar voor uw geld

The location was beautiful and the rooms were really nice and clean. The staff was helpful and friendly. The location was near the activities we wanted to do in the Nyungwe forest.

While our stay was wonderful, the place seems a bit overpriced and the restaurant at the hotel was very expensive taking advantage of the fact that there weren’t many options for dining around the area.

Perched on a hill with a panoramic view of Nyungwe forest, this is the perfect base for exploring the surrounding national park. The pictures online don’t do this place justice! We had a wonderful stay for 2 nights here - from a delicious welcome drink on our arrival to cleaning our boots after a days hiking and hot water bottles in the beds at night, the staff were all excellent! The food was great and we were offered a choice of taking our breakfast early before chimpanzee tracking or taking it to go - normally packed hotel breakfasts are disappointing but this was one of the best - freshly prepared fruit, pizza, cookies and cakes - it was delicious and perfect after a mornings hiking! If you are coming to Nyungwe Forest National Park (which is a must if you visit Rwanda!) then you absolutely have to stay here! Thank you to all of the staff who made our time here special!

Most of the staff were really friendly. There were some really nice touches, like leaving 3 umbrellas on the porch on the day it was to rain. The food was yummy and restaurant staff beautifully attentive. The location was great and room clean and functional, with lovely views of the bush and birdlife.

The bottled water was way over priced (US$2 per 400ml bottle) and we were fortunate that we had our own car to drive down and buy water (2l for $1.20) for our family. We had a nice room/cabin, which was over-priced compared to other accommodation in Rwanda (e.g. excellent Ruzizi campsite in Akagera, which was fully catered). The room has a long list of rules and warnings that we'd be charged extra if we "were caught" bringing food into the room or doing our own washing etc. It felt regimented. I tried to buy a poncho in case it rained on our chimpanzee hike and was told that the 'disposable' raincoat poncho (sells in Australia for about US$7) was 40,000 RWF/ US$40. When I said that was too much she said it could be $27. I didn't buy it. I understand that she may not have known, but that interaction summed up the feeling that the hotel takes financial advantage of the isolated location. If they say that the meal is buffet, you can ask for an alternative. Finally, our hire care (not sure i'd recommend Kigali Car Hire after it broke down 4 times) would not reverse and was stuck at the bottom of the hotel steps (we'd tried maneouvring it and it wouldn't go). The hotel steps are very wide (about 6 metres) and there was plenty of room for guests to get in and out. One of the managers came down and said we would have to move the car. I explained that we understood it wasn't ideal and that I was waiting for the mechanic and we hoped to move it within 2 hours and I apologised. He said that the hotel wouldn't be very happy about it. I asked what could I do about it. Ironically, later after I'd tipped a tour guide who was really helpful in translating with the mechanics, a hotel staff member said to feel free to talk to hotel staff who could help. I explained that instead of getting an offer of help, I only got a complaint from hotel staff.
