About this house rental
The manor house, which is over 100 years old, has been extensively renovated, carefully restored, and individually furnished with great charm. It is situated in a secluded and very quiet location, in the heart of the Wreecher See Nature Reserve, about 6 km from the princely town of Putbus, but is easily accessible via dirt roads. A car is required to get there. Very close by, in Altkamp, there is a horse farm located about 500 m from the natural Bodden beach.
The manor house features approximately 220 m² of living space spread over two levels. On the first floor, there is a living room with a cozy sitting area, a fireplace, and two comfortable wingback chairs. A dining room with a large dining table and access to the spacious veranda, the kitchen, and a study with a desk, a historic potbelly stove, and a piano are also located on the first floor. You’ll also find a bedroom with a double bed, a bathroom with a bathtub-shower combination, a separate restroom, and an utility room with ironing supplies and access to the furnished terrace. All the rooms on this floor are—as was customary in the past—connecting rooms.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a stove featuring a ceramic cooktop, a freezer, a washing machine, an oven, a refrigerator, a dishwasher, a microwave, a coffee maker, a toaster, an electric kettle, and various small kitchen items that round out the amenities.
Upstairs, there are 4 bedrooms (1 with a double bed, 3 with single beds), a separate guest restroom, a bathroom with a shower and toilet, and another bathroom with a bathtub-shower combination and toilet, which is attached to the master bedroom.
The huge garden offers plenty of space to play and run around, as well as a sandbox with sand toys. Child-friendly amenities include 1 crib, 1 changing table, a child safety gate at the top of the stairs, child-proof windows and outlets, a high chair, a baby monitor, a potty, and various children’s books and toys.
A telephone (for calls to German landlines only) and an internet connection are available.

About the history of the house:
The Glowitz estate was first mentioned in a document in 1318 as a single farmstead in the municipality of Kasnevitz. Even today, the church in Kasnevitz—one of the oldest on Rügen—still houses a pew bearing the inscription “Glowitz.” The estate has been continuously inhabited from that time until today.
It was likely toward the end of the 18th century that Glowitz passed into the possession of the zu Putbus family. Prince Malte I declared the estate one of the outlying estates of his lands, which he leased along with the surrounding 100 hectares of land. The current building was erected at the end of the 19th century on the foundations of the previous building, which had burned down. The unusual light-gray brick used to construct the manor house and the barn came from the former princely brickworks near Ketelshagen.
Around 1885, Moritz Jahn was the tenant of Glowitz; in 1920, his son Ernst took over the lease. In 1945, Ernst Jahn was expropriated as a large landowner, expelled, and imprisoned. After his release from prison, he was not allowed to return to Glowitz. As part of the land reform, Ernst’s son Ludwig was allocated one-tenth of the land and a portion of the manor house for living quarters. He was required to contribute the remaining land and all livestock to the local agricultural cooperative (LPG). In the 1970s, Ludwig Jahn was finally permitted to purchase the entire manor house along with 10 hectares of land. The current owners acquired the Glowitz estate in 1996 and have carefully renovated it.
