Built in 1854, this building is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and takes you back to the late 1800s but with modern amenities. Located just a stones throw from the River, across the street from Big Bouys Marina, Kwik Star and a block from the Sadie’s Sweet Ice Cream shop! You don’t want to miss enjoying all of the history and the beauty of this vintage gem! American House 1854 is listed on the National Register Historic Places. Many famous people have frequented the American House including former President Jimmy Carter and the legendary Mark Twain when he was in town doing a speech. Please note: This is a train town and we are located in close proximity to the tracks. some train noise should be expected and it’s amazing to watch them. We do provide complimentary ear plugs for your convenience.

It was a very nice girls’ weekend stay for 3 older ladies. It’s a very old property, so as you might expect, doors could be a little hard to open, etc. Typical old house things that come along with the charm of an older building, but all 3 of us live in older houses, so it wasn’t unexpected. Everything we needed was supplied, and it was a short walk to a variety of restaurants and a convenience store. I would definitely recommend it.
