Never ever Vacasa LLC | 850 NW 13th Ave., Portland, OR 97209

These hosts (vacasa vacation rentals) had been the worst we ever had contact to in all the years of travelling. No info for check-in. No info how to get the keys. After cancelling no sign of apologizing. Vacasa insisted on payment for the apartment even though the apartment was not provided. Up to now no refund.

Stay for Ironman World Championship

Nice surfing across the street. Triathletes all over the place: biking and running Ali’i drive. That has a special vibe!

Coffee machine did not work. The room was clean but a bit worn and could use a modern make-over.

The location was perfect and the views. No complaints about the condo at all

Absolutely no early check in considered even when requested months in advance and the day of just to see if it may be available. We were told the condo specifically doesn’t allow early check in at all, no exceptions. It would be the only reason I didn’t vote 10/10… we flew in at 10am and had to wait until 4pm, even tho from the looks of it the room was cleared and cleaned prior to 12pm.

Well-organized and wonderfully-refreshing.

We visit the Big Island to hike, snorkel and to body-board (kids). This was our second time at Kona Bali Kai apartments. Apparently we liked the apartment itself — everything is functional, straightforward and organized to our liking. The kitchen has everything we need to make our own simple and healthy food. The Poke-serving place on the premises is highly reputable and always crowded. Groceries are available from Safeway, Walmart (both to the North) or KTA supermarket (to the South), all within 10 min drive. Papayas from Walmart are our daily local treats. A variety of hikes are available within 1.5 hour drive from Kailua-Kona, including rain forest, beaches and mountains. Snorkeling in the Kona region can be done off any beach, as long as the waves are moderate and the access/exit is safe. The farthest snorkeling we went on foot from Kona Bali Kai was at the "Mile marker 4" Bay, just to the south of the Magic Sand Beach. Finally, nothing beats the Magic Sand Beach, just 20 min on foot from Kona Bali Kai, for kids body-boarding and adult beach-bumming. Just do it in the evening, to avoid sunburns.

Street noise from Ali'i drive can be a problem for some. This time, our unit was facing the drive — and we experienced it in full. It should not be a problem in units facing the ocean. Also, last time we were in a different building away from the street and also have not heard much.

Location

The shower has mold and needs cleaning. The small AC unit can't keep up with the heat. There’s no AC in the bedroom; only fans were used to pull in cool air, making it barely comfortable to sleep. The overall room quality is far below what was paid for. The rooms are dark due to old light fixtures. The kitchen drain smells bad. A cleaning fee of around $200 was included in the cost, yet we were still expected to take out the trash, clean up, and strip the bedding ourselves.

Disgusting, infested & dated

Bug infestation. Vacasa, who manages the property did nothing to rectify. They only want your money, $730 for 2 nights to be exact, for a disgusting experience. DO NOT BOOK. Hundreds of bugs all over- all screens were closed & still they were getting in. It was a gnat graveyard everywhere- the floor, the walls, the beds, even the fridge!!!. I travel a lot and have generally stay in budget places & have never had an experience like this. No customer service from Vacasa. They don’t GAF, they just want your money. Never again.

Didn’t quite match the expectations set by the listing.

We appreciated the complimentary bottled water and a couple of snacks—that was a thoughtful welcome. The apartment was clean when we arrived, and the entrance/check-in process was smooth and easy.

On the downside, quite a few things in the apartment felt outdated and not very intuitive. It took a while to figure out how to operate the washer and dryer, the AC, and the blinds. I reached out to customer service each time I ran into an issue—while they were always friendly, unfortunately, they weren’t very helpful in resolving the problems. One major drawback is that there are no windows. The only option is to close the blinds, which helps reduce the outside noise a bit, but not enough to actually sleep in. It gets very noisy early in the morning—after 6 AM, forget about peace and quiet. The listing mentioned two queen beds, but in reality, it was one queen bed and a sofa that supposedly folds out into a queen. I wasn’t able to open it fully, and folding it back was a mini workout, so I ended up sleeping on it as-is—not exactly the most restful option. The kitchen was described as “well-equipped,” and technically it had the basics, but we had to go out and buy a lot of essential items—salt, pepper, spices, oil, coffee, tea, even filters for the coffee maker. Usually, with Airbnb stays, these things are provided. There were also some rusty knives and only two coffee cups, which was surprising. Lastly, the apartment is part of a beachfront complex, which sounds amazing—and visually, it is. The beach is beautiful and right there, but it’s all lava rocks, so don’t expect to swim. Great for photos, not so much for splashing around.

We throughly enjoyed the location of this oceanfront condo but the lack of cleanliness dampened our trip.

Location in our ocean front condo was exceptional! The double sliding doors allowed for great views and a good breeze since the unit isn’t air conditioned.

Dirty utensils in the kitchen. Had to wash before using. Dirty coffee pot. The clean water portion was slimy and fuzzy. I hand washed the coffee pot but still didn’t feel comfortable using it. One spot in the bed had a very strong floral scent. It was where you would lay your head if sleeping on your stomach. No smells on the rest of the bed.

La chambre n’a pas de vitre sur la fenêtre, il y fait donc très très chaud, et la climatisation du salon ne suffit pas à la refroidir. Le ventilateur au plafond permet de rendre la chaleur supportable mais ce n’est pas idéal
