Syrah Serenity

Nice little villa in a handy part of Martinborough village. Had nearly everything you'd need for staying a longish time. Fantastic bath.

The heating was problematic for the winter. When I checked in, the info sheet for the place said it had a heat pump, but I couldn't see this (only a small convection heater in the lounge) so contacted the hosts. They said that I could use the fireplace and that there was wood on the property and that they'd bring some more - which wasn't correct and didn't happen. So I had to buy wood to burn which was a nuisance without a car. It was hard to warm the place in mid winter. The house hadn't been used for a long time, and there were dust piles, a couple of dead insects and cobwebs in most rooms. It could have done with a bit of a clean. Only 3 towels provided for a 4 night stay which seemed impractical.

Proximity to vineyards and centre of Martinborough and dark sky reserve. Nice and quiet, comfortable space.

Shower didn’t drain away too well, the plug wasn’t the cleanest when I looked to see what the issue was. Also there was an old wooden loo seat and no bin in the bathroom.

House was tidy and had everything in it from board games, books to all that was needed in a kitchen including laundry products, ironing board and iron. It also had a hair dryer if needed which was great :)

Would have been nice to have cobwebs cleaned properly in corners, on the ceiling and around curtains. But these didn't get in the way of anything. Note, would have been a good idea to have air freshener in the bathroom - we left a can for future visitors.

Great location. Was warm and well maintained.
