About this chalet rental
The chalet is located near beautiful nature reserves. A road runs alongside the park to a unique, unspoiled nature reserve—the Fochteloërveen—covering 2,500 hectares, with many biking and hiking trails and beautiful observation towers. It is one of the last raised bog areas in Europe and home to the majestic crane. The cottage is also close to Appelscha and the famous Drents-Friese Wold National Park, best known for the Aekingerzand, popularly known as “De Kale Duinen.” For a taste of culture, the historic prison village of Veenhuizen, about 3 km away, is highly recommended. Step back in time and visit the impressive prison museum, take a ride on the convict bus, or stroll through the old village past the stately buildings. Veenhuizen is part of the Colonies of Benevolence, which were recently designated an UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s a unique place and definitely worth a visit.
