Greenhouse on the Hill, Sea View Studio Apartment

This is a wonderful base for single travellers or couples visiting St Lucia. The studio was bright and clean with everything you would need from a holiday rental. Ellen and John were always available anything you might need but equally invisible when you didn't need them. We even enjoyed an evening at a local beach bar. If I'm honest, I was taken with the property from viewing the photo of the view alone, which didn't disappoint! The local village didn't disappoint either. There are plenty of bars and places to eat to choose from all at very reasonable prices. The locals are ridiculously friendly, without being pushy and you never feel unsafe. I have my own rule that I won't revisit places that I have already been because there is so much to explore in the world. But, if i did break my own rule, it would be to return St Lucia and, more than likely to stay with Ellen and John.

This is not something that the owners can influence and is the same over the whole island. But visitors need to be aware how hilly St Lucia is. A hire car, or a hefty taxi budget is pretty much essential for anyone with limited mobility. The buses are very cheap and a fun experience but they aren't door to door.

Unterkunft war perfekt ausgestattet. Balkon mit wunderbarem Meerblick, bes. auch Sonnenuntergang. Sehr aufmerksame Gastgeber, hilfsbereich, geben viele gute Tipps für Strand und Restaurants (Mellys !).

Eigentlich nix. Das Haus liegt ca. 100m hoch - vom Dorf am Meer aus gesehen. Das erfordert ein wenig Kraft für die abendliche Rückkehr von den vielen Restaurants und Bars in Laborie. Es könnte mal nachts typische tropische Schauer geben, die sehr laut aufs Dach prasseln. Aber das ist landestypisch und hat nichts mit den Gastgebern zu tun.

Overall, had a fantastic stay. John and Ellen were terrific hosts and kept in frequent contact both before and during the stay but never felt intrusive. They were amazing in offering up and helping to reserve dinners, a boat tour, and directing us to attractions around the island. They were even helpful in picking us up at the completion of the boat trip and the (paid) drop off service was also very much appreciated. Really could not ask for better hosts! Location and property were terrific as well - the main draw is, of course, the view of the village from up on the hill with St Vincent in the distance, which you can spend hours enjoying. The supplied kitchenette was basic but met all our short term needs and the inclusion of a counter oven was appreciated. A/C was powerful and great at night and everything else was as expected. Only minor things to point out are the shower doesn't get too hot and can take a while to heat up (common for tropics) and the supplied fridge is a small under the counter unit with a 2-liter bottle-sized freezer so you need to plan accordingly.

Obviously, this is not under the hosts' control but the location is on the second tier, uphill from the main road that passes above the village resulting in a very steep climb for cars and walking. Walk from beach to house takes 15-20 minutes. We counted this as our gym time during vacation. Payment was in cash for all services which I have not encountered in many years.

Spacious, well equipped studio with stunning view from balcony. Very clean and bright. Quiet air con and a mosquito net if needed (we didn’t). John and Ellen were great hosts, helping us with activities and even doing a bit of shopping for us. The basic provisions supplied on arrival were much appreciated.

The property is on a steep hill with a 10 minute walk down to the village or 15 minutes back up (which is why there is such a great view!). It’s important to know that there is no ATM in the village and few places accept cards so take local currency with you. Also, selection of food in the shops is very limited so if self-catering, bring food with you.
