Norwood Curtis House

A local landmark with nearly two centuries of history, the lovely Norwood Curtis House provides a unique and charming setting for experiencing the beauties of Camden. Stroll to wonderful restaurants and shops in the heart of town, catch sunrises and sunsets at the picturesque harbor, and listen to the sounds of music wafting up from the amphitheater in summer.

This two-story home dates back to 1846, nestled within the High Street Historic District of beautiful downtown Camden. Once the home and workplace of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Richard Russo ('Empire Falls'), the property now sits adjacent to the grounds of the town's library and amphitheater. When you're not exploring on foot, you'll be perfectly placed to visit Camden Hills State Park, Camden Snow Bowl, Rockport, and Rockland - all within eight miles.

The house has been thoughtfully furnished with relaxation in mind. Original details - including built-in cabinetry in the dining room - are interspersed with such modern comforts as new kitchen appliances (including an induction range that's great for lobster pots), spacious bedrooms overlooking Mt. Battie, and a home office with high-speed WiFi.

When you're looking to unwind, take your pick of three enclosed porches - one where you can sip your morning coffee with a view of the street, a second that serves as both the home office and a sitting area, and a third upstairs that acts as an additional sleeping space overlooking the yard. Between these and the living room, the large dining room, the kitchen, and the outdoor deck (with a gas grill) draped in vines, you'll have ample space to gather with loved ones.

At night, find one bedroom - along with a wonderful collection of books - on the first floor. There are three more bedrooms upstairs in addition to the window-lined sleeping porch, which is accessed through the primary bedroom.

This lovely Camden home is a short work to town, the harbor, and the park. We have rented this home twice, and we have thoroughly enjoyed the house and its proximity to all Camden has to offer.

We have a lovely time staying at the house over the week leading up to the 4th of July. It is beautiful and beautifully restored and preserved. The closeness to the downtown is a huge bonus. We enjoyed many mornings and evenings on the back deck enjoying our coffee and wine.

I had all kids and grandkids for a family reunion. The house was everything I had hoped for. Space for everyone to be by themselves if they wished to, space(s) for all to congregate, and they were all nice and comfortable. Plus, being 2 blocks from the wonderful downtown makes it a treat. Our ages range from 86 to 2 and everyone loved the house and Camden.
