Getting there is half the fun. Enjoy a relaxing drive through the mountains to Blue Sky cabin. The 30 minute drive from Bryson City to the cabin follows along a rushing stream through the mountains. This is a typical mountain road - very curvy. The cabin is located in the private community of Alarka Highlands which has its own hiking trails and a beautiful waterfall for you to discover.

The main floor is a great area for family and friends to relax together. The space features a comfortable open floor plan, so all guests can interact from the kitchen, dining area or living room.

>> Andrea: "This was the most relaxing and beautiful stay I have ever had."
Melissa: "We loved every moment and felt right at home."

>>HIKING from the cabin:
Outdoor adventure is at your doorstep. The private nature of the Alarka Highlands community allows for nice hikes and views throughout. There is a hiking trail in the community and a waterfall which can be seen from the road.

The AREA:

Bryson City sits on the southern side of the Great Smoky Mountains. It abounds with natural beauty and outdoor fun. In the area, you will find plenty of venues for entertainment and adventure including: The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Deep Creek tubing, Nantahala River Gorge, river rafting, Tuckasegee River, Tsali Biking, Fontana Lake, and the quaint mountain town of Bryson City with several breweries, shops, restaurants and the famous Polar Express.

Other Things To Note:

Once you enter the gate at Alarka Highlands, it will take you approximately 10 -15 minutes to reach the cabin as you climb higher in elevation. The main road into the community, while paved the majority of the way, is steep and curvy. About halfway into the subdivision, the main road turns into gravel. This road is also very curvy and bumpy in places. It is strongly recommended that your first trip to the cabin be during daylight hours. There are no street lights and the road is dark at night. After your first trip up, you will be a seasoned pro at mountain driving. All-wheel or 4WD is required by the community for road preservation. No UTVs, ATVs, RVs or motorcycles are allowed in the community.

-- You will be requested to sign a rental agreement upon booking. You will also be charged a Damage Protection fee of $37 which provides insurance coverage for damage you might accidentally cause up to $3,000.

The cabin was even better than the pictures. The host thought of everything! There were instructions for every appliance, a bundle of wood for the fire pit, coffee for the two coffee machines and a s’mores kit for the kids . The house was even fully decorated for Christmas and spotless. The host was very nice, helpful and available to assist with driving directions and make restaurant suggestions. The trip was even better than anticipated and this was the best VRBO we ever stayed in. We would not hesitate to return and would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a mountain vacation.

Best cabin we’ve stayed at in the area!

Overall the cabin is very nice, clean and has everything you need. The property managers responded quickly to any questions and were very friendly. The only negatives for us were that the listing doesn’t quite give you the details of how far up the mountain you have to drive. It is pretty steep and a good 15 minutes from the entrance and 30 minutes from Bryson city. I’m not sure how you would get up or down the mountian in the winter, the front sign says they do not service the roads. Also, the gated community is pretty much abandoned. The gate was not operational and the tennis court/clubhouse area seemed like a good thought but has been long forgotten. A lot of the cabins in this community are for sale and it just feels very isolated. That’s really the only negative, other than that the property itself is very well maintained and cozy.
