Island Home

It was ok.

Since it's a home stay, I expected to have contact with the family what didn't happen, since the room has an independent entrance ans is separated from the house.

I really enjoyed staying in a local neighbourhood and walk downhill to the city centre from the house. The house has everything needs including hot water in the shower and a kitchen. All the stuff was very helpful and nice and I took the offered service of airport transfer.

I am so glad I chose this place! I stayed in Honiara for 10 days total for a conference - the town itself is not very nice, and Island Home was a lovely sanctuary away from this. JR and Jen are absolutely lovely hosts that were really helpful and made me feel at home. Because of my longer stay they went out of their way to ensure I settled in - picked me up from airport, took me to get a sim, the ATM, supermarket, and main market - and even upgraded my room. There is a terrace with views of the hills and bush which was perfect for morning coffee, an adorable and slightly cheeky cat that I doted on, and very chill dogs that kept to themselves. It was great to have a kitchen as the market is incredible with huge variety of fruit, veg, and fish. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of space for belongings, and the living space was likewise spacious, with a lounge area and dining table as well as the outdoor space. The location is a little back from the road in a residential area, which that was one of my favourite things, it was a nice walk if you like to walk, or there are buses and taxis. The housekeepers were very new but nonetheless kept the place very clean, are not at all intrusive, and were super sweet. In terms of trips out of Honiara I highly recommend Savo island and Sunset Lodge as well as the Tenaru waterfalls.

The incessant barking of dogs at night. The lack of decent kitchen facilities. The bathroom facilities very poor. The toilet cistern doesn't work so a bucket is needed!
