Maweni House - Beachfront, Pool, AC & Cook

This is a magical place to stay. Gorgeous, photogenic house with a lovely garden, pool and amenities. The breeze was perfect! We also loved the remoteness. Kids loved exploring the beach, finding sandbars and tidepools. There were no beach boys to speak of, so we were left undisturbed. Seaweed was VERY thick while we were there in October but not unmanageable. I guess that is a difficult thing to predict.

Our ONLY complaint is communication with the cook and house manager. Planning meals was not stress-free. Groceries were outrageously expensive and the purchasing was poorly executed. Had I known, I would have made a trip to Naivas myself and planned the whole menu ahead of time. We came with lots of kids ages 6-13, and the first two days they kept making very meager portions. The only desserts they knew how to make were fruit salad and banana fritters, despite first saying they could do ANYthing we want, including creme brulee! They thought we were crazy for wanting anything more. Seafood was overpriced and overcooked. We asked for breakfast at 8am but they were still finishing making eggs at 9:15. It would have been cheaper and easier to go to restaurants. In my mind, it is so simple just to prepare a menu of options that the cook is very versed at preparing, which includes lots of seafood and maybe just a couple more sweet options. House manager should prepare a thorough shopping list and then go purchase himself from Naivas. We went through about 12 receipts and $600 for a four-night stay. It was a mess.

Perfect location, super private beachfront and all the staff was just amazing.
