We had a wonderful stay at Podocarpus Cottages in Naro Moru. The road from the highway to the property is a little bumpy, but once you arrive, it is absolutely worth it. The place is incredibly serene, quiet and peaceful — perfect if you’re looking to get away from the city and simply relax in nature. A special mention to Jemima, who was wonderful throughout our stay. She took great care of us, kept the cottage clean, and helped arrange a bonfire and BBQ dinner. One of our favourite moments was sitting around the bonfire at night under an incredible star-filled sky — definitely don’t miss this! Michael, the owner, was also very helpful and always available on call. He gave us some great recommendations on places to explore nearby. On Day 1, we visited Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which is easily accessible from Naro Moru. On Day 2, following Michael’s recommendation, we drove to Aberdare National Park — and this turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. Driving through a rainforest right on the equator, with wildlife encounters along the way, was a fantastic experience. The waterfalls inside the park are absolutely beautiful. For Aberdare, I would definitely recommend a 4x4, especially if you want to explore comfortably. Also, there is a full fledged kitchen available in the cottage for cooking your own meals with basic spices, milk, eggs etc. Please take a note of this since we carried lot of these stuff only to realise there is already a functional kicthen as mentioned. Overall, Podocarpus Cottages is a lovely base for exploring this part of Kenya, while also being a peaceful retreat in itself. Great hospitality, beautiful surroundings, bonfires under the stars, and easy access to some unforgettable experiences. Would happily recommend it!
Nothing in particular that we didn’t like. One small suggestion would be to add a signboard along the approach road, as Google Maps indicates that you’ve arrived slightly before the actual property, which can make it a little tricky to locate the entrance.

The cottages are beautifully designed, clean, and comfortable. What truly sets Podocarpus apart is the hospitality. The host, Jemimah, was warm, welcoming, and went above and beyond to make us feel at home. The location is ideal for exploring the Mount Kenya region while still feeling secluded and relaxed.

Michael was an amazing host, taking us for long hikes and helping us get around and understand the area. He does this with his heart. The environment was just beautiful, so green and flowery- many bird sounds. The view on Mount Kenya too. Amazing to have fresh breakfast that we could make for ourselves with all the goodies.
The road to get there was not great with our car, but it's worth the drive. More local feeling u won't get.
