Tented Camp Near Mt Longonot, Elwai Visitor Centre

It was absolutely gorgeous and we loved the genuinely kind staff.

The beds were uncomfortable and the showers got too hot. There was no way to cool it down.

Met ons gezin met 3 jonge kinderen verbleven we een week bij Elwai. We hebben een fantastische tijd gehad! Het is een prachtig aangelegd terrein met veel faciliteiten. De eigenaresse en haar zoon hebben ons steeds uitstekend geholpen met het bedenken en organiseren van tripjes die we wilden maken. Prisca was ook op voorhand al erg behulpzaam, communiceerde fijn, zocht dingen voor ons uit en kwam met concrete opties en prijsindicaties. Het personeel is heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam, ze helpen overal bij.

We verbleven in de grootste tent. Ons advies zou toch zijn een cottage te kiezen, als je het geld hebt. De tent is mooi maar, ondanks dat we de grootste hadden, toch krap met een gezin van 5 en alle baggage die daarbij komt kijken. Bovendien zijn de bedden erg hard en smal. We hebben wel extra matrassen gekregen toen we dit aangaven, want zoals gezegd: ze helpen met alles! De tent is zeker prima, maar heb je het budget, ga voor de cottages.

Wonderful host, lived in England so understands western expectations well. We hired him for a drive back to Nairobi, and it was good we did as he found a way around a blocked route, by calling back to base etc. The pool is unheated but warms through the day. Host has a great vinyl music collection, classic jazz, swing and more. I think this could be a great retreat venue, even workshops, yoga etc especially for internationals, bring-your-spouse, etc

We had to leave early, so we had no time to swim. We had to wash our own dishes - oh what new hell was this?! ;-)) We weren't allowed to feed onions to the lovely gentle dog

The property and the surroundings are very serene and beautiful. The tents are such a fresh breath of air, spacious and cozy. The cabins are really well made and I can’t wait to return to stay in one of them! Oh and the pets are lovely

We particularly didn’t like the hidden charges. We were told once we arrived at the place that late check out was an extra KES 200 per person and we could check out at 6:00pm. However, on the check out day we were instead charged KES 500 per person and told to leave by 4:00pm which is the opposite of what we’re told on the day of arrival. In addition to that, we sensed some micro aggression after one of the staff mentioned to us that she thought the group coming to visit was a group of whites only to see us Kenyan girls due to the specifications and standards we wanted. She went ahead to mention that we were being given special treatment ( that we actually paid for) otherwise it’s not usually like that. I felt that was on odd thing to say. Lastly, the menu prices are really high so please be prepared for that.
