Sleeping with the Horses

Secluded, silent and warm

Coming from metropolitan city, we appreciated the rural location amongst Icelandic land. It gave a cozy private feeling with almost all direction views from cabin (of land and horses!). Communication with staff leading up to the stay and during was impeccable, they managed to slot us in for a Mr. Iceland Ride & dinner at the last minute. As a new rider, Mr. Hordur (Mr.Iceland himself) taught me the focal points for controlled riding before taking us out to the trails as a group. We rode through the icelandic elements and for someone who hates being battered by the rain, I loved it! He served us roasted lamb leg, salad from his farm and local potatoes and we broke bread as a group after an afternoon horseback riding. We've stayed in many cabin-type accomodations but the personable touch they add if you wish to partake is the cherry on top. I spent many hours seated without bother by my cabin, enjoying the peace and serenity. Thank you Hordur, Alina and Greta for the wonderful stay.

I wish we stayed longer!

It really is Sleeping with horses. They have a ton of Icelandic horses and I was able to go out in the field and spend time with them. Super accommodating and nice! My canine was very clean and was very well equipped. Comfy, sliders front and back. It felt very much like the heart of Iceland.

The private studio was modern, clean and warm. The surroundings were wonderful and horses were beautiful. There seemed like there were a couple of experiences on the farm you could do, however, we only stayed for 1 night so had no time to do these.

Firstly, the location given on booking.com is completely wrong. It is 20 minutes away from the actual location. When you are arriving in the dark this can be quite scary as you are driving along pitch dark, gravel roads in the middle of no where and there is absolutely no signage. When we did call the host to ask for directions they picked up right away and gave us the right location, but just a suggestion they could update this on the booking.com page to avoid future guests getting lost. We arrived at about 6 and it was quite a strange experience as there was absolutely no one around, it was pitch black, so it was quite eerie and kind of scary. The shops are at least 20 minutes away so make sure you arrive well equipped with everything you need because nothing is provided for you in the kitchen, no milk, no oil. Only some coffee pods and tea. For the price you pay for the accomodation you would think there would be some pleasantries. Not to mention the toilet flush button was broken and you had to stick your finger into the top of the toilet to flush it. In the morning, there was a worker there that was looking after the horses, she was lovely but seemed to have nothing to do with the accomodation. There was also quite a big untrained dog on the property. We love dogs so this was fine for us but just putting this here as a warning to people that do not like dogs. Lastly, I accidentally left my kindle reading tablet at the property, while this is completely my fault, the hosts have been no help in trying to retrieve it. We have messaged them on booking.com, texted and called the number attached to the booking, and even had booking.com customer service reach out to them, and have received 0 response on any of these channels. This has just further contributed to the uneasy feeling we got when we arrived at the property.
