Tanna Lava View Bungalows

My stay at Tana Lava View Bungalows was an unforgettable experience. Daniel and his family are incredibly friendly, welcoming and hospitable. Every day, I was provided with breakfast, lunch and dinner, freshly prepared by Daniel’s wife. The food was delicious, and I always felt well taken care of. What made this stay truly special was the opportunity to get to know the local people and experience their culture and traditions. Everyone I met was very kind and welcoming. My guide, Max, showed me so many amazing things on Tanna, including Mount Yasur volcano, the Twin Waterfalls, traditional fire-making techniques, local dances and different villages where I could learn about kastom, the traditional customs and way of life of the local communities. These experiences gave me a wonderful insight into the culture of Tanna. One important thing to know before booking: You should be prepared for very traditional accommodation and a simple way of life. Volcanic ash is part of everyday life on Tanna and can be present around the bungalows. Water supplies may occasionally be interrupted, and you should not expect the same level of comfort and facilities as in a modern hotel. This is part of the reality of staying in a traditional setting on the island, so it is worth keeping in mind when planning your trip. For me, these things did not take away from the experience. Quite the opposite: staying here allowed me to experience Tanna in a more authentic way and appreciate the hospitality and everyday life of the local community. A huge thank you to Daniel, his family, Max and everyone who made my stay so special. Daniel og Chela var virkelige søde værter. Overnatningsstedet er meget autentisk, og Chela laver god mad. De var også gode til at arrangere udflugter (vulkan, vandfald, Yakel custom village, kvindernes dans, kokosplantage, mv.).

Vi havde desværre ikke lys på badeværelset og vores toilet lækkede. Hvis man ikke melder sig på udflugter, er der ikke meget at lave. Udflugterne koster en del, men er pengene værd. Vi havde ikke internet.

The location was nice and out of the way with a great view of the volcano. Listening to the volcano rumbling while I was sleeping was really cool. Our host was amazing and I can't wait to visit him again.

My only request would be for a more permanent power situation as well as hot water for the shower.

The village and location were lovely, with great views of volcano and surrounded by forest, and the meals were good.

Upon arriving we were told that despite booking the 2 bungalows (travelling as a group of 3 friends - a couple, and a single), we now had to share one as the 2nd bungalow had been double booked “by accident through WhatsApp the day prior” according to the host. However he had clearly done double booking on purpose as the family staying in the 2nd bungalow had actually booked a month prior. To make matters worse he then tried to charge us for the 2 bungalows. In addition we were told a price for a watching a cultural dance by the village women, but by the next morning this price had increased, and I suspect the transfer back to the airport was double charged as our group and the family were both charged for a transfer in the one vehicle.
